Nolan Schanuel’s sacrifice fly scored the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Seattle Mariners 8-7 Sunday afternoon in Anaheim, Calif.
Shaun Anderson (1-0) struck out Cal Raleigh with the bases loaded in the top of the inning.
With Adam Frazier the automatic runner at second base, Gabe Speier (0-2) intentionally walked Zach Neto leading off the bottom of the inning. Both runners advanced on Oswald Peraza’s sacrifice bunt and Schanuel lifted a fly ball to left, with Frazier beating the throw home.
Both teams scored in the 10th. Randy Arozarena’s single to right gave the Mariners a 7-6 lead in the top of the inning. In the bottom half, automatic runner Jo Adell advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Bryce Teodosio and scored on Logan O’Hoppe’s sacrifice fly to center.
The Mariners tied the game with a two-out rally in the ninth. Raleigh doubled to left and chugged home on Julio Rodriguez’s broken-bat single to left on a 2-2 slider from Sam Bachman.
The Angels’ Mike Trout left the game in the bottom of the eighth after being hit on the left hand by a pitch from Casey Legumina.
The Angels took the lead in the first inning as Neto led off with a double and scored on Jorge Soler’s two-out single.
Seattle responded in the second, with Leo Rivas’ two-run single making it 2-1.
The Angels tied it in the third as Trout led off with a double to left-center, took third on a groundout and scored on Soler’s single to right.
Los Angeles took a 4-2 lead on the fourth on a Rivas fielding error at third which allowed Josh Lowe to score and a Schanuel infield single with two outs.
The Mariners regained the lead in the fifth on Cole Young’s three-run homer to right.
The Angels wasted little time regaining the lead, scoring twice in the bottom of the inning. Jeimer Candelario led off with a line-drive double, scoring on an Adell single to level the score at 5. Adell came around to score the go-ahead run to make it 6-5 on a grounder which got under Rivas’ glove.
Angels right-hander George Klassen, called up from Triple-A Salt Lake City to make his major league debut with scheduled starter Ryan Johnson scratched because of an illness, lasted just 2 2/3 innings. Klassen gave up two runs on three hits, with five walks and four strikeouts.
Mariners starter Luis Castillo didn’t go much longer, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits over 3 2/3 innings. The righty walked one and fanned four.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru posted the highest score in the rivalry fixture against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2026 match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.
RCB scored 250 for three, going past the previous best score of 226 for six by CSK in April 2023 at the same venue.
250 is also Bengaluru’s third-highest score in the IPL history — the first being 263 for five against Pune Warriors India in 2013. This also this year’s highest score so far.

Honor Huff scored 38 points and made eight 3-pointers to help West Virginia rally for an 89-82 overtime victory over Oklahoma in the College Basketball Crown championship game on Sunday in Las Vegas.
Chance Moore added 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Mountaineers (21-14), who trailed by 13 points in the second half before rallying. Brenen Lorient scored 15 points in the program’s first postseason tournament title since winning the 2007 NIT.
Nijel Pack led Oklahoma (21-16) with 24 points and seven assists, followed by Tae Davis’ 19 points and Xzayvier Brown’s 13.
Oklahoma scored the first six points of overtime, taking an 82-76 lead on Pack’s layup.
Jasper Floyd then hit his first 3-pointer of the game, followed by Huff’s triple to tie the score with 2:14 remaining. After Pack missed a 3-pointer, Floyd hit another trey to give the Mountaineers an 85-82 lead.
West Virginia got stops on its next two possessions and Huff drilled four straight free throws to seal the championship win.
Oklahoma pushed its four-point halftime lead to 10 on Pack’s 3-pointer, forcing a West Virginia timeout less than four minutes into the second half.
Brown’s jumper extended the margin to 13, before Huff’s three-point play and Moore’s layup cut the deficit to 59-51.
Lorient’s basket at the 5:23 mark pulled West Virginia within three. Derrion Reid and Davis scored on Oklahoma’s next two possessions, giving the Sooners a 71-64 lead.
From there, Huff scored five straight points and Lorient made a layup to tie the score at 71 with 1:45 remaining.
After an Oklahoma timeout, Pack and Huff traded triples. Davis then turned the ball over and committed a foul on Huff, who drained two free throws with 33 seconds left.
Davis’ ensuing layup tied the score at 76. Huff missed a go-ahead 3-pointer on the other end, sending the game to overtime.
The Mountaineers connected on eight of their first 10 3-point attempts, including Huff’s three straight triples to build a 26-11 lead.
Oklahoma answered with a 16-2 run, cutting its deficit to a point on Pack’s mid-range jumper with 5:25 left in the first half.
After Moore’s layup snapped a four-plus minute West Virginia scoring drought, the Sooners scored nine straight points, taking a 36-30 advantage. Davis closed the first half with a three-point play to give Oklahoma a 41-37 halftime lead.
With former India bowling coach Bharat Arun in his corner, the 35-year-old credited meticulous planning and hard work for his strong performances against Delhi Capitals and SRH.
“My strength has always been with the new ball. On that particular day, if your bowling is going well, then you put in three overs early. If three go well, then put the fourth quickly,” he said.
When asked about playing on a familiar turf but for his ‘home’ team, Shami said, “Whole India is my local. I play all over. Everyone knows how the wicket is anywhere, what the conditions are and how to use them. It is very important to know how to use that against different teams.”

Mohammed Shami came back to haunt his old team, Sunrisers Hyderabad, mercilessly, taking the sting out of its explosive batting unit before the side was even ready to get going.
The success on one side, Shami vulnerably declared after a match-winning performance for Lucknow Super Giants, “I am not a machine. My seasons can go up and down. I have performed well in the last few years. People didn’t notice, that’s a different story. But I always try to do well.”
Besides scalping SRH’s openers, his spell on Sunday featured 16 dot balls to stifle the home side early.
“Dot balls depend on your preparation, followed by execution. Sometimes it happens that a very good ball leaves your hand. It’s important to hold that line and flow, and I did just that. Pace off works a little against Hyderabad batsmen, so I did that too,” he added.

Michigan head coach Dusty May informed Michigan officials that he would not take part as a candidate in North Carolina’s coaching search — nor any other — ESPN reported on Sunday.
May, 49, has guided the Wolverines to the NCAA Championship Game in his second season in Ann Arbor. A year after he took them to the Sweet 16, May has the Wolverines sitting at 36-3 ahead of Monday’s championship matchup with UConn.
The Tarheels have been in pursuit of a new coach since firing Hubert Davis on March 24. The school is now facing a looming deadline of sorts with the transfer portal opening on Tuesday, yet it has also been doing due diligence with coaches still in the tournament.
Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd had been squarely in North Carolina’s sights until Friday, when Lloyd was given a significant contract extension to remain with the Wildcats. That provoked speculation that the Tarheels could turn their attention to another Final Four coach.
As Lloyd’s new deal became public, May — whose buyout is $7 million — also addressed job rumors on Friday, reiterating his commitment to Michigan.
“After last year, I decided that I’ll never, ever respond to any job speculation,” May said. “I think it’s well-documented how happy I am at Michigan. Obviously, my private life, my personal life, my family, their happiness is very important.”
Interestingly, Lloyd and May squared off on Saturday, with May’s Wolverines winning a one-sided affair, 91-73.
North Carolina finished 24-9 with a first-round exit in this year’s NCAA Tournament. Iowa State’s T.J. Otzelberger and Alabama’s Nate Oats have also publicly taken themselves out of the running in recent days. Other reported candidates include the Chicago Bulls’ Billy Donovan and Vanderbilt’s Mark Byington, among others.
The Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble Ends at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium were on Sunday officially unveiled at a ceremony attended by the stalwarts’ family members.
The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) president and long-time teammate of the two legends, Venkatesh Prasad and vice-president Sujith Somasundar oversaw the official unveiling along with other association officials.
The KSCA had announced on February 14 that Dravid, owner of 24,177 international runs, Kumble, who has 956 international wickets, and former India woman cricketer Shantha Rangaswamy will have ends/stands named after them at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The old BEML end at far corner was renamed after Dravid while the pavilion end was rechristened after Kumble.
“It’s been a second home to me. It’s been a place where we’ve probably spent more time than we have in our houses. But it’s also a place that has truly given me everything I have today. I can never be grateful enough for what the KSCA and this great, iconic ground have given me in my life.
“I’m truly thankful that Venkatesh Prasad and his committee have decided to name an end after me. It means a lot. I know this would mean a lot to my family as well,” Dravid had said.
His mother Pushpa Dravid and brother Vijay were witness to the grand occasion. Kumble’s family too was in attendance through wife Chetana, son Mayas and daughters Aaruni and Swasthi.

This time last year, Nebraska took home the inaugural College Basketball Crown trophy. The winner of Sunday’s championship game in Las Vegas between Oklahoma and West Virginia will hope to carry similar momentum into next season.
Oklahoma (21-15) endured a nine-game losing streak in the heart of Southeastern Conference play, ultimately dooming its NCAA Tournament chances before finishing as the first team left out of the 68-team field.
The Sooners face former Big 12 rival West Virginia on Sunday in the program’s first championship game since their 1991 NIT final loss to Stanford. For Oklahoma coach Porter Moser, the decision to accept the bid wasn’t a tough one, and so far, it’s paid off.
“I’m not going to lie, it was a very hard Selection Sunday,” Moser said. “The emotions were very raw, because of how much these guys battled through when no one else believed. We felt we should have been in (the tournament), but that’s for a later discussion. We could either talk about that, or we could show them why they made a mistake.”
After beating Colorado 90-86 in overtime on Wednesday in the quarterfinals, Oklahoma got 21 points from Xzayvier Brown in its 82-69 victory over Baylor on Saturday. Nijel Pack’s 16.6 points per game pace the Sooners, while Brown adds 15.5.
West Virginia (20-14) beat Creighton 87-70 in the semifinals on Saturday to earn its first 20-win season since the 2019-20 campaign. One more victory would give the Mountaineers their first postseason tournament title since winning the 2007 NIT.
First-year head coach Ross Hodge’s team flirted with the NCAA Tournament bubble all season. When that dream fell short, there were no doubts about heading to Las Vegas.
“There was no conversation that needed to be had about playing,” Hodge said. “These guys love each other. They love the university. They love the state of West Virginia. It’s their heart and their gratitude that is directly responsible for us to be in the position that we’re going to be in (Sunday).”
Freshman DJ Thomas scored 20 points in the Mountaineers’ win over Creighton — his second most this season. Honor Huff leads West Virginia with 15.9 points per game, followed by Brenen Lorient’s 11.8.
Nebraska followed up its CBC title last season by winning a school-record 28 games this season, including the first two NCAA Tournament victories in program history.
