Trevor Lawrence injury updates: Jaguars QB ‘not likely’ to play Sunday against Vikings

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ 2024 NFL season is slowly slipping away from them. Jacksonville began the year with four straight losses and has lost three of their last four games, with their only win over that stretch a victory over the New England Patriots.

Now their troubles are getting worse.

Update Sunday: According to reports, Lawrence will not play Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.

Update Friday: On Friday head coach Doug Pederson indicated that it was “trending” toward Lawrence not starting Sunday, and that Mac Jones would start in his place against the Minnesota Vikings:

Previous: Starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence continues to deal with a left shoulder injury. While this is an injury to his non-throwing shoulder, Lawrence is considered day-to-day with the injury:

Jacksonville signed C.J. Beathard this week off the Miami Dolphins practice squad to their 53-man roster to add some depth in the QB room. Beathard appeared in seven games for Jacksonville last season, starting one. In that start against the Carolina Panthers in Week 17, Beathard completed 17-of-24 passes for 178 yards, as the Jaguars kept their then-slim playoff hopes alive with a 26-0 victory.

While there are rumors that Lawrence is having surgery for the injury, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network dismissed those on Thursday. Rapoport also noted that Mac Jones, acquired by the Jaguars in the offseason, is the team’s backup quarterback.

Rapoport also indicated it was unlikely that Jones would play Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings:

This is a developing story and will be updated.
