Ryan Reynolds Sets the Record Straight on Talks With Tom Brady for the Wrexham-Birmingham US Proposal
Ryan Reynolds has picked up Wrexham AFC from the ashes with the help of Rob McElhenney. However, not everyone has been charmed by the Hollywood stars’ integration into British football. Ever since their takeover of the league was announced, there has been discourse regarding this as another instance of financial doping in the name of football. While the docuseries Welcome to Wrexham has helped eliminate much of these sentiments, the club has once again sparked a scuffle between Britain and America.
The reason is the rumored Wrexham-Birmingham clash in the US to grow American interest in the English game. Ryan Reynolds has finally broken his silence on the rumor and whether it even holds any water or not.

There have been several reports floating around regarding an alleged talk between Ryan Reynolds and Birmingham City’s investor, Tom Brady. As per Mirror, a source close to the Birmingham City Football Club had reportedly informed about this meeting. A fan on X picked up the same story from the publication to remind Ryan Reynolds of the “guiding principles” he stated publicly before buying the Wrexham club. In response, the 47-year-old tweeted, “I agree. And that’s why there have been no talks”.
While there have not been any official requests about such merging, the top tier and the EFL have constantly shown an aversion to the idea of playing domestic games overseas. While Reynolds has certainly debunked the rumors of him being in talks with Tom Brady, and hence denying the US merging of the sport, his partner, Rob McElhenney’s earlier statements somewhat contradict it.
Rob McElhenney has previously shared his hope of Wrexham AFC expanding into the US after the team rose to fame with Welcome to Wrexham.

The sudden push from US-based dealmakers and administrators to get a Premier League fixture to America has sparked due to the unprecedented interest in America for English football clubs. A lot of this interest stems from the American television network FX-produced show Welcome to Wrexham. Upon seeing the immediate impact of the show in the US, Rob McElhenney expressed his wish to make Wrexham “America’s team” in the future.
“We said from day one we want to grow the exposure of the club and make it a global enterprise,” said the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor at a news conference in March last year. He shared his desire to “spread the story” to the States after seeing America’s love for the town. Given such contradicting statements from the owners of Wrexham AFC, it is uncertain whether Ryan Reynolds will be able to keep up with the “guiding principles” or upset a large section of British fans.
