It feels like it’s been a while since we’ve had a slate of NFL games this intriguing.

No, we didn’t get off to the best start to the week when the Los Angeles Rams beat the San Francisco 49ers 12-6 on Thursday night—a game so blah that a 49ers linebacker was asked to enter the game and said he didn’t feel like it.

But Sunday will be a veritable treasure trove of football action. After a few sneaky good games in the early afternoon window, we’re looking at a potential Super Bowl preview of Buffalo at Detroit, plus Pittsburgh at Philadelphia and Indianapolis at Denver (a huge one for the AFC wild-card race). Then Green Bay at Seattle for the nightcap.

Some of these juicy matchups will not only bring a tear to the eye of the regular football fan but also have the betting community excited. Let’s zoom in on our three favorite picks for Sunday’s action.

COMMANDERS AT SAINTS, 1 P.M. ET

The New Orleans Saints’ recent defensive performances are a mirage. They’ve allowed 17, 14, 21 and 11 points in the last four games—but against the Atlanta Falcons (with the malfunctioning Kirk Cousins), Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams and New York Giants. Those teams rolled up between 322 and 468 yards on New Orleans but were too inept to translate it into points.

The Washington Commanders, for the first time in a long time, are not inept on offense. They’ve averaged 28 points over their last five, only once scoring below 26 and most recently hanging 42 on Tennessee.

The Commanders are coming off a bye week; they’ll enjoy fair scoring conditions inside the Superdome, and they’re in the thick of a playoff chase. Jayden Daniels leading them on four touchdown drives is hardly a stretch.

Using FanDuel’s alternate point totals, we can capitalize on the books’ inflated belief in the New Orleans defense and probably make a tidy sum.

Commanders over 27.5 total points, +128 (FanDuel Sportsbook)

BILLS AT LIONS, 4:25 P.M. ET

After posting the first three passing touchdown, three rushing touchdown performance in NFL history, what will Josh Allen do for an encore? And will it come in a win this time?

In five of his last seven games, the MVP candidate has exceeded 301.5 yards passing and rushing combined. One of the two games where he didn’t was the snow game against the 49ers, when he banged his non-throwing hand, and when the result was secured by the middle of the third quarter, so I’m willing to give him a pass there.

This game will be indoors, and the Lions are far better than the Niners. Detroit should make this a back-and-forth game, meaning Allen will need to keep doing what he does.

Finally, no team allows fewer sacks than Buffalo (13). Detroit’s pass rush sans Aidan Hutchinson is pretty meager, managing one or zero sacks in three of the past four games. Allen’s dual-threat magic will be on full display, so this prop should safely hit the over.

Josh Allen over 301.5 passing + rushing yards, -114 (FanDuel Sportsbook)

STEELERS AT EAGLES, 4:25 P.M. ET

The Lions’ 11-game winning streak has overshadowed the second-best team in the NFC, the Philadelphia Eagles, who ride a nine-game streak into the battle of Pennsylvania.

But it’s hard to feel great about the vibes in Philly when the star receiver is mad at the quarterback, the defensive end uses his radio show to call out the receiver for not being accountable, and the offensive players have to clear things up publicly.

The only teams the Eagles have blown out in the past six weeks are the Cowboys and Rams. Everything else has been close. Surprisingly, the Eagles have gone just 2-4 against the spread at home this season.

The Steelers have hit their stride behind Russell Wilson, and their fourth-ranked rushing defense is one of the few capable of containing Saquon Barkley. We’ll take the visitors to cover.

Steelers +5.5, -110 (DraftKings)
