The Real Housewives of New York Season 15 has shown Ubah Hassan shouting about her modeling career from the rooftops. We know she is the cousin of Chanel Ayan, who is also a model. So it is evident that good looks and long legs run in the family. Ubah prides herself on being a Somali-Canadian model and businesswoman. So naturally, she took great offense when she came under fire for her career by haters. Here is what we know about Ubah’s fashion life.
Brynn Whitfield has been coming for Ubah Hassan’s career
The Season 15 trailer showed Ubah and Brynn Whitfield going head to head-during multiple conflicts. During one of their fights, the socialite took a low blow saying that Ubah “only models for Dressbarn.” It didn’t help that only a second before Brynn had called her former friend’s modeling career “delusional.” Ubah naturally flipped and, after the episode, took to Instagram to clap back. She wrote, “Just to clarify, my @Dressbarn day rate could easily cover six months of her cheap, no-view apartment rental. xoxo Ubah.”
During the same fight, Ubah made sure to target Brynn, telling her, “Everyone here is a pigeon. You’re the biggest pigeon ever.” Unable to calm herself, Ubah then told everyone to “Google my name. Naomi wish. Giselle wish.” Obviously, the exchange of words did nothing to help their relationship. But it was clear that Ubah took pride in her modeling career and didn’t feel happy when someone tried to tear down her accomplishments.
Who has Ubah Hassan modeled for?
In addition to having worked with Dressbarn, Ubah took to her Instagram Story to share she has also modeled for some major fashion houses. Over the year, she has walked in shows for Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, and Gucci, per L’Officiel. It may be surprising to learn that Ubah started her long career at the young age of 15. When she walked in Ralph Lauren’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week show as the face of the designer, she donned a khaki jacket with a matching headdress. For her second outfit, she wore a ready-to-wear cream silk dress accessorized with a slim belt.
In 2011, she was photographed at a Louis Vuitton event with the editor of Vogue Italia, Bethann Hardison. So, it is safe to say she knows some of the heavy hitters in the couture industry. In 2010, a younger Ubah wowed in tailored red pants and a crisp white shirt for her walk with Oscar de la Renta. Ubah walked multiple runways for Oscar, which spanned between 2008 and 2011. Even though her career was at its height in the early 2000s, it doesn’t take away from all she has accomplished.
Ubah Hassan is more than just a pretty face
Ubah is not near retirement age, but her business mind and savvy have taken a turn. She is now the proud founder and owner of her hot sauce, Ubah Hot. The model’s hot and spicy side hustle has brought her a lot of accolades since it was featured on the Real Housewives of New York Season 14. The sauce was so well received that it was even placed on Oprah’s Favorite Things 2021 list, which we all know is no easy task. Ubah Hot was featured in an Oprah Daily profile, too. At the time, Ubah noted that she “didn’t want to eat steamed fish and steamed vegetables alone. Somalians love hot sauce.” With three products, the Yellow Tanzanite, Serrano, and the Fresno, Ruby Ubah launched her business.
There is no denying that Ubah is a hard worker. In a July 2023 Instagram video, the model shed some light on her success. She noted, “From a tender age, I grasped the concept of Ego vs. confidence: Ego longs for external affection, yet genuine confidence blossoms from within. Cheers to Mama for the valuable lesson!” Ubah is well acquainted with what she desires out of life. And even though Brynn might mock her catwalk, the fact is Ubah has had longevity in the business and made a solid career out of her love of posing for the cameras.
