Karen Huger’s Lawyer Speaks After Guilty Verdict For DUI & Related Charges In Maryland (UPDATE)

Whew! Roommates, the cast of ‘The Real Housewives of Potomac’ might have a mouthful about the Grand Dame at season nine’s reunion! On Wednesday (December 18), a jury found Karen Huger guilty of a DUI and related charges in Maryland.

Karen Huger Speaks Out Following Her DUI Conviction

As previously reported, cops pulled the 61-year-old over on March 19. She reportedly avoided an arrest. Officials later charged her with driving impaired and under the influence of alcohol and additional charges. Though Karen Huger wasn’t hurt in the Potomac incident, she drove herself into a trial. It concluded on Wednesday with a conviction on five out of six charges with a DUI at the forefront, per Fox5DC.

She got off on reckless driving, but the courts held her responsible for failure to control vehicle speed on the highway to avoid a collision, driving a vehicle in excess of reasonable and prudent speed on the highway, driving a vehicle on the highway with suspended registration, and failure to notify administration of change of address within 30 days, per PEOPLE. Reports said Karen hit “multiple street signs” after crossing a median.

One day after the incident, Karen spoke to TMZ about it, explaining that she was crying after meeting a friend for dinner and swerved her car to avoid a head-on collision. She also claimed the other car involved left the scene. On Wednesday, December 18, her attorney, Scott Bolden, released a statement to PEOPLE on the conviction. Bolden stated that they’re “disappointed” in the verdict but “respect” the jury’s decision. Still, there’s a plan in motion to appeal.

“We continue to reserve Mrs. Huger’s right to an appeal and intend to fully pursue justice on her behalf. We appreciate your support and prayers for Mrs. Huger and her family at this time,” Bolden said.

The 61-year-old could reportedly face up to two years in jail. She’ll reportedly return to court after the holidays on January 29, per Fox 5 DC.

Footage Shows Karen & Her Husband Speaking To Police After Being Pulled Over

Soon after her conviction, media outlets released bodycam footage of police interacting with Karen Huger. Her husband, Ray, was also there trying to explain the incident to the cops. He told the police, “I would rather her not do a lot of talking at this point, cause she’s probably a little bit upset…” Still, what sounded like two officers continued to question Karen about what direction she was coming from. One officer asked her, “Do you remember the accident?” and Karen Huger seemingly stared off into the distance.
