ACC men’s basketball might be having a down year aside outside of the dominance of the Duke Blue Devils, but you can always count on the ACC tournament to deliver. The tournament moved to the quarterfinals on Thursday, and immediately all hell broke loose. Cooper Flagg went down with an ankle injury for Duke. North Carolina might have played its way off the bubble with a win over Wake Forest. The end of Louisville vs. Stanford took the cake with one of the wildest endings possible.
With the game tied at the end of regulation, Louisville held for the last shot. Terrence Edwards Jr. missed a three-pointer that was rebounded by Stanford’s Chisom Okpara. For some reason, Okpara decided to frantically get rid of the ball, and he accidentally passed it to the other team. Okpara’s pass landed right in the hands of Louisville’s Chucky Hepburn, who casually drained an unguarded mid-range jumper to win the game.
This is the madness of March distilled into one game. How the heck does this happen? Watch the play here:
Jubilation for Louisville. Heartbreak for Stanford. We might not see a more bewildering ending throughout all of March Madness.
Louisville advances to play the winner of No. 3 Clemson vs. No. 6 SMU. The Cardinals were going dancing regardless, but winning this game will help maintain their seeding.
What a ridiculous way to lose for Stanford. Okpara had a solid game with 10 points and six rebounds. It’s going to be hard to forget about that pass, though.
