Current Standings
RCB is currently 2nd on the table (5 wins in 7 games), while DC is 7th (3 wins, 4 losses).
Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s new-ball pair, Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, offered a reminder on Monday that high-class bowling, with a hint of assistance from the surface, can restore the bat-ball balance in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).
The IPL has become a batter’s paradise, with flat pitches and short boundaries contributing to sky-high scores and teams routinely chasing down 200-plus totals.
The Impact Player rule, which allows teams to replace a bowler with a specialist batter during a match, has also contributed to what critics say is a lack of balance between bat and ball this season.
On Saturday, Delhi Capitals racked up 264 for two, briefly the season’s highest total, and yet watched helplessly as Punjab Kings pulled off a record chase with seven balls to spare.
Two days later, however, on a different, livelier surface at the same Arun Jaitley Stadium, Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar claimed seven wickets between them and bundled out Delhi for 75.
Delhi lost six wickets inside four overs, a stark contrast to the batting carnage often seen during PowerPlays.
Both Bengaluru seamers bowled the conventional Test match length and got the ball to swing around.
“Even I’m surprised the way the wicket played,” Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar said.
“The way they hit those areas and got that bit of swing, that was tremendous to see. I think the swing was normal, and the good thing was we got early wickets and that’s why it kept us in the driving seat.”
Delhi captain Axar Patel said they struggled against two world-class bowlers.
“They swing the ball and have done it at every ground,” he added. “If our openers or one-down batters had batted one or two more overs, it could have been a different score or a different match. Credit to them for the way they bowled.”

The venue was Delhi. The format was T20. But at the start of Monday’s fixture at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the IPL, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood were so irresistible with the new ball that the proceedings resembled a Test match unfolding on a green deck in Dunedin.
If Bhuvneshwar teased Delhi Capitals’ batters with swing from a good length, Hazlewood tormented the opposition with the short delivery. The deadly combination broke the back of the host inside the PowerPlay, and made victory for Royal Challengers Bengaluru a matter of formality.
Both pacers scalped three wickets each in their opening spells as Capitals were incredulously reduced to eight for six in 3.5 overs, with the scores of the top six reading 0, 1, 1, 0, 5, 0. The record of the lowest total in IPL history — 49 by RCB against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2017 — was in danger for a while, but Abishek Porel and David Miller put together 35 for the seventh wicket to avert that ignominy.
Eventually, Hazlewood finished with figures of 3.3-0-12-4 as DC folded up for 75. The defending champion took just 6.3 overs to clinch a nine-wicket win, leaving Axar Patel and Co. with a lot of soul-searching to do in the coming days.

Heightening the sense of disbelief about the evening was the fact that 529 runs had been scored for the loss of just six wickets across two innings on an adjacent pitch just 48 hours ago.
Bhuvneshwar sparked the collapse. With debutant Sahil Parakh on strike in the opening over, the 36-year-old conjured up an inswinging yorker to uproot middle stump. He would also account for Tristan Stubbs and Axar in the third over.
From the other end, Hazlewood was just as spellbinding. Off his first two balls, he dismissed K.L. Rahul and Sameer Rizvi. Rahul was hurried by a bouncer, miscuing a pull to wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma. Rizvi was enticed into a loose drive to a ball wide of off-stump.
The others crumbled predictably like a pack of cards, with Hazlewood fittingly ending the Capitals’ misery by cleaning up Porel with a yorker.

DC vs RCB Live Score: Catch the latest scores, updates and highlights from the IPL…
For the sake of convenience mostly, Krunal Pandya is classified as a left-arm orthodox spinner. But what leaves his left arm at the point of delivery doesn’t always qualify as orthodox or even spin.
The variance in length can be extreme, with his repertoire including a sharp bouncer as well as the ball in the block-hole. Add his occasional low-arm release to the mix, he is able to keep the batters guessing in a format where his brethren of finger-spinners increasingly appear redundant.

The 35-year-old’s methods may not necessarily please the classical practitioners of the craft from yesteryear, but he is seeking effectiveness rather than endorsement.
The unique approach is bearing fruit for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Having taken 17 wickets for the title-winning outfit last season, Krunal has claimed eight scalps in seven matches in 2026.
Dinesh Karthik, RCB’s batting coach and mentor, feels the southpaw is redefining the rules of finger-spin. “He is a player that this game is going to remember for a long time because he is doing something that has not been done before. He’s pushing the boundaries of what a finger-spinner means,” Karthik told reporters on Sunday.
“He’s bowling deliveries that people really couldn’t fathom a few years ago and he’s using them very cleverly. He’s not someone who’s just doing it because it looks cool. He knows that it does create a doubt in the batter. He is a trend-setter. IPL is changing the landscape of cricket and Krunal is changing the landscape of finger-spin bowling,” the former wicketkeeper-batter added.

Delhi Capitals’ (DC) performance against Punjab Kings on Saturday in the Indian Premier League (IPL) had the fluctuations of a volatile stock market.
So wildly did it oscillate from the sublime to the ridiculous, as an exemplary batting effort to amass 264 for two — DC’s highest total in IPL history — was followed by a horror show with the ball and in the field. While the bowling appeared rudderless on a pitch that played better than expected, the malaise of dropped catches spread like wildfire, allowing Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh to make merry with half-centuries.
Dispiriting as that was, Axar Patel’s men have little time to contemplate, given that they run into another formidable opponent in Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday.

Besides Royal Challengers oozing with confidence after five wins from seven matches, Capitals’ task is compounded by the likelihood of the defending champion enjoying a lion’s share of the support. Virat Kohli, the one constant in RCB’s ever-evolving set-up, may no longer be living here, but residents of the national capital continue to exhibit fierce loyalty to a superstar whose formative years can be traced to the by-lanes of west Delhi.
More importantly, the 37-year-old is showing no sign of slowing down in white-ball cricket. Despite prolonged breaks from competitive cricket following his Test retirement last year, his impact for the southern franchise hasn’t dimmed in the slightest — 328 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 163.18 is proof.

The former skipper will be given company by Jacob Bethell at the top of the order. With Phil Salt yet to recover from injury, Bethell, who was drafted in for the last game, will get another chance to step up.
Other than that, RCB’s combination looks well-settled. The same cannot be said of Capitals, who are in desperate need of a win to shrug off Saturday’s erratic display.

Today marks the 18th anniversary of the first match of the very first IPL season way back in 2008. Incidentally, the first match was also held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium when Royal Challengers Bengaluru took on Kolkata Knight Riders.
It was a debut to forget for RCB as it suffered 140 run loss and the host will be looking to flip the script against Delhi Capitals today and extend its winning momentum. Today’s fixture will also be RCB’s 100th IPL game at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
