#Suarez #mark #Messi #fires #blanks #Inter #Miami #beats #Real #Salt #Lake">Suarez off mark but Messi fires blanks as Inter Miami beats Real Salt Lake Rodrigo De Paul and Luis Suarez scored a minute apart late in the second half, breaking a deadlock and handing Inter Miami a 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake (RSL) on Wednesday in Sandy, Utah.
Dayne St. Clair made four saves in his first clean sheet of the season as Miami (5-1-3, 18 points) went 2-0-0 on a trip to Colorado and Utah, which were also the first two matches under interim manager Guillermo Hoyos.
Rafael Cabral recorded five saves for Real Salt Lake (5-2-1, 16 points) in its first loss since the season opener, ending a six-match unbeaten run.
The possession was nearly even throughout the night until Miami took over in the final 10 minutes. The visitors broke the seal in the 82nd minute off a corner kick.
Rather than send in a cross, Telasco Segovia passed to the outside for De Paul, who was left unmarked and fired in a perfect shot to the far corner.
Miami regained possession quickly after an offside call on RSL. Suarez, who was subbed on during the 75th minute after not playing Saturday against the Rapids, was the beneficiary of a juggled pass by teammate German Berterame. Suarez buried a left-footed shot on the run.
It was the second goal of the season for both De Paul and Suarez.
Salt Lake thought it had scored within the first five minutes of the match for the third straight contest.
Morgan Guilavogui’s fifth-minute goal, a rebound of his own initial attempt, was taken off the board as Sergi Solans was ruled offside by mere inches.
Miami star Lionel Messi had one shot off a cross parried away by Cabral.
RSL had its chances in the second half before Miami heated up. Zavier Gozo badly missed the net after Diego Luna’s creative backheel pass to him in the box in the 64th minute.
RSL’s DeAndre Yedlin expertly blocked out Facundo Mura’s push in the 76th minute. The team went on the counterattack and won a free kick near the penalty arc, but Luna’s free-kick shot went inches over the crossbar.

Lionel Messi has bought Catalan club Cornella and become the team’s new owner, the Spanish fifth-tier side announced on Thursday.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is still playing in the United States for Inter Miami and is expected to play a key role in Argentina’s World Cup title defence this year.
“This move reinforces Messi’s close ties to Barcelona and his commitment to the development of sport and local talent in Catalonia,” the club said in a statement confirming the former Barcelona player’s acquisition.
Several top players have come through the ranks at Cornella, including Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya and Messi’s former Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba.

“The project is guided by a long-term vision and a strategic plan that combines ambition, sustainability and a strong connection to its local roots.”

#Guillermo #Hoyos #longtime #friend #Lionel #Messi #unveiled #Inter #Miami #coach">Guillermo Hoyos, longtime friend of Lionel Messi, unveiled as Inter Miami coach
Guillermo Hoyos said his long friendship with Lionel Messi will not stop him working the Argentine superstar hard in training, as he was unveiled as the new coach of MLS side Inter Miami on Wednesday.
Hoyos, previously Miami’s sporting director, replaced Javier Mascherano, who departed the club for ‘personal reasons’ on Tuesday just four months after guiding the club to its first MLS Cup title.
The 62-year-old Hoyos was a key former mentor of Messi with Barcelona’s youth team more than two decades ago, and the Argentine pair have remained close ever since.
“Friendship is non-negotiable. We share a friendship that spans many years,” said Hoyos, speaking in Spanish, at his first press conference.
“However, that friendship does not mean that we will be constantly hovering over him or in his face every single day.”
A club statement initially said Hoyos will take charge of the team for the “upcoming matches,” but the team has since referred to him as head coach in social media posts.
Club sources told AFP that Hoyos is expected to remain at the helm only until the middle of the year, with a new coaching setup in place by the start of the Leagues Cup in August.
After seven rounds this season, Inter Miami sit third in the MLS Eastern Conference.
Messi, a 2022 World Cup winner and eight-time Ballon d’Or laureate, is the jewel in the crown of Miami’s squad.
