Kolkata Knight Riders will miss the services of the spin duo of Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine against Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens on Monday night.
KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane confirmed at the toss that Varun sustained an injury while taking a catch during its 65-run defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday.

The 34-year-old has endured a tough IPL thus far going for 48 in his four overs against Mumbai Indians and following it up by conceding 31 runs in his two overs against SRH.
Rahane also confirmed that Sunil Narine was ruled out due to illness. The last time KKR played without either Narine or Varun was in 2019.
Varun and Narine’s places were taking by seamer Navdeep Saini and all-rounder Rovman Powell as KKR surprisingly opted to bat first at Eden Gardens. Anukul Roy is expected to be the team’s lone spinner.

The build-up was perfect. Shah Rukh Khan attended his first match of the season, while fans turned up in decent numbers to cheer for Kolkata Knight Riders despite the team’s recent struggles.
But in the end, strong winds and torrential rain had the final say as the Indian Premier League 2026 fixture between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings was washed out on Monday.
Despite predictions of rain, KKR opted to bat and was reeling at 25 for two in 3.4 overs when the showers arrived, halting play barely 17 minutes into the game at Eden Gardens.
Coming off two consecutive defeats, KKR took the field without the injured Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine. In a bid to strengthen the batting, Rovman Powell and Navdeep Saini were drafted into the XI.
However, it was another disappointing start for KKR as neither Finn Allen nor Cameron Green managed to settle, both caught behind off a probing spell from Xavier Bartlett. With Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi attempting to rebuild, rain forced the players off the field.
There was initial hope of a restart as the groundstaff swiftly covered the square and outfield. But as the evening wore on, the rain intensified and powerful gusts of wind swept across the ground.

Sheets of rain lashed the square, the stands gradually emptied as spectators sought shelter, and puddles began forming despite the covers remaining firmly in place.
With no improvement in conditions, match referee Javagal Srinath eventually called off the contest, with both teams sharing a point.
Coincidentally, when the two sides met at the same venue last year, that match too had been washed out, earning both teams a point each.
A year later, it was a similar story, with the unpredictable April weather once again having the final word.

Tim David showed exactly why Royal Challengers Bengaluru retained his services for the 2026 season with a scintillating power-hitting display for the defending Indian Premier League (IPL) champion on Sunday.
The 30-year-old Australian clobbered eight sixes in his unbeaten 70 off 25 balls as Bengaluru scored a 43-run win over Chennai Super Kings to make it two wins from two.
In an innings of huge hits, David drew gasps with a monstrous 106m strike that landed on the roof of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
“I’ve been getting in trouble during training with the boys,” Player-of-the-Match David said of the six.
“We have competitions to try and hit them on the roof, and we’re obviously on the side pitches. So, to get one during a match out of the middle, help it up on the roof, it was good fun.”
Bengaluru tops the early-season standings with a net run rate superior to that of Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, who also began with back-to-back wins.
Bengaluru’s Rajat Patidar thumped 48 not out off 19 balls and David, who plundered 30 runs from a Jamie Overton over that included four sixes, said the captain’s approach helped set the platform for his late burst.
“Rajat was absolutely smoking it and I was taking balls off him so to be able to get us to a score and obviously put a lot of pressure on the opposition,” he added.
Chasing 251 for victory, five-time champion Chennai Super Kings managed 207 before being bowled out with two balls left in its innings.
“If you look at the score, we were ahead of them up to about five overs to go,” CSK head coach Stephen Fleming said.
“And then they just went like a rocket. So, that’s really where the game was lost for us.”
It was a third straight defeat for Chennai Super Kings, which slipped to the bottom of the table.
