South African opener Ryan Rickelton brought up his maiden IPL century against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday, April 29.
Coming into the side for the injured Quinton de Kock, Rickelton was at his sublime best, unleashing an array of shots to all parts of the park as he brought up his century in 44 balls.
Rickelton’s century today was the fastest 100 by a Mumbai Indians batter, bettering the 45 ball effort by Tilak Varma against Gujarat Titans earlier in the season.
While this was Rickelton’s first century in the IPL for Mumbai Indians, the South African has already scored two centuries representing the MI brand in the SA20 before, where he plays for MI Cape Town.

Sanju Samson laid the foundation by bettering his T20 World Cup semifinal heroics at the Wankhede Stadium with his second hundred of IPL 2026. And Akeal Hosein’s sensational spell sealed the deal as the marquee clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) turned into a cakewalk for the visitor on Thursday.
Samson’s fifth IPL hundred, coupled with Akeal producing arguably the spell of the season, left MI on the mat as CSK registered a thumping 103-run win. After posting 207 for six, CSK bundled MI out for 104 in 19 overs with little fuss, the chase never quite taking off.
Impact Player Akeal, drafted in for his new-ball utility, struck immediately. His first over saw MI’s Impact Player Danish Malewar edge one behind the stumps. Soon after, Quinton de Kock played on off Mukesh Choudhary — the pacer gesturing to the heavens in tribute to his mother, who passed away earlier in the week. In his next over, Akeal spun one in from leg stump to castle Naman Dhir. At 11 for three, MI was already on the ropes.
The Wankhede, packed and loud, found itself outnumbered and outvoiced by a sea of yellow. The onus fell on Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma but Akeal returned to break that resistance, sneaking one through Tilak’s defence. Alongside Noor Ahmad, he triggered a collapse — four wickets for three runs off nine balls — as MI slipped from 84 for three to 87 for seven. Shardul Thakur, on as a concussion substitute for Mitchell Santner, merely delayed the inevitable.
Earlier, Samson had ensured that CSK had a big total to defend. Ruturaj Gaikwad started briskly before falling to Allah Ghazanfar while Shivam Dube struggled for timing. The rest of the top-order maintained strike rates above 150.
Samson, watchful early, opened up with precision later. On 85 at the start of the final over, he muscled one over deep midwicket off Krish Bhagat, then, after two dots, carved a wide ball over covers. Farming strike, he finished with a pull over square leg for a one-bounce four — a flourish that helped him celebrate the milestone in style and push MI on the back foot.

Tilak Varma found his form when it mattered most, producing a scintillating maiden IPL century to power Mumbai Indians to a commanding 99-run victory over Gujarat Titans on Monday.
After a string of underwhelming outings, Tilak began cautiously before shifting gears dramatically, finishing unbeaten on 101 off 45 balls (8×4, 7×6).
Much to the delight of a 40,000-strong crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium, he went on a rampage in the final six overs, smashing 82 runs off just 23 deliveries. Mumbai Indians plundered 96 runs in that phase to post a formidable 199 for five and seize complete control of the contest.
Tilak led the charge with ruthless precision, hammering 26 runs in an over from Ashok Sharma before dismantling Prasidh Krishna with calculated aggression.
He reached his century with a boundary off the final ball of the innings, his animated celebration reflecting both relief and redemption. The knock also equalled the joint-fastest hundred for MI, matching Sanath Jayasuriya.
In response, Gujarat Titans faltered early and never recovered. Jasprit Bumrah struck with the very first ball, removing Sai Sudharsan, and the middle order failed to deliver.
With Jos Buttler and Shubman Gill falling cheaply, the chase lost direction as wickets fell at regular intervals. The Titans were eventually bowled out for 100, unable to mount any sustained resistance.

It was a dominant show from the Mumbai bowlers. Mitchell Santner marked his return with two key wickets, removing Washington Sundar and Glenn Phillips, while Impact substitute Ashwani Kumar kept the pressure on with four wickets. With the bowlers maintaining discipline, the Titans’ fragile middle-order was exposed once again.
Earlier, Mumbai’s innings began shakily. Debutant Danish Malewar lasted just four deliveries, while Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav also fell early, leaving it at 45 for three in the Powerplay. Kagiso Rabada remained the biggest threat, consistently breaching the 150kph mark .
However, the recovery was orchestrated by Naman Dhir, whose composed 45 laid the platform in a 52-run stand with Tilak Varma. Tilak then took complete control, while skipper Hardik Pandya provided stability in an 81-run stand, ensuring MI returned to winning ways after four successive defeats.
