Why Karen Huger Should Be Worried About Her Upcoming Sentencing

Why Karen Huger Should Be Worried About Her Upcoming Sentencing

Karen Huger is most likely pacing the entranceway of her Potomac mansion as she readies herself for her upcoming sentencing date. For most of Season 9, Karen has kept her cards close to her chest regarding her recent arrest and trial. She has made it her mission to shout from the rooftops that she would be vindicated. As fans know, this is not what happened. Now, Karen’s fate is in the hands of a Maryland judge, and many think that Karen should be preparing for the worst.

Karen Huger made a poor decision

Fans of the Real Housewives of Potomac learned that in March 2024, Karen had been involved in a motor vehicle accident. During her short trial, the Bravoverse learned that Karen had struck a median while she was driving her 2017 Maserati after a dinner out. The police report also noted she had hit a street sign and crashed into a tree. She was lucky to have walked away unharmed. The Real Housewives of Potomac star was charged with driving under the influence, negligently driving a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, endangering property, life, and person, and various other counts.

Karen’s day in court didn’t go as planned. The prosecution had bodycam footage, which shed light on what really happened that March night. During the trial, the state called multiple witnesses, including the police and EMT on the scene. The prosecution also showed body camera footage that had Karen slurring her words and cursing at the arresting officers. Another video also showed Karen telling the officer she “hated” them for arresting her.

Karen Huger sent herself to rehab

Days before she was due back in court In Touch, reported that Karen fired her legal team. At the time Karen had a small win as she succeeded in getting her sentencing date pushed back as her new legal team tried their best to get caught up on her case. The 61-year-old had asked the court for time to finish her rehab stay, too. The judge agreed and set a new date for February 26. Time is now running out, and Karen is about to find out the consequences of her actions. The new motion was filed on January 9 by David A. Martella and Barry Helfand.

The lawyers stated that “Ms. Huger is seeking to have the benefit of counsel’s 30 years of experience handling cases of this kind, in the Maryland Courts, and in fashioning recommendations that State and the Court may find acceptable to address the community’s interests in accountability, rehabilitation, supervision, and deterrence.” According to Karen’s new legal team they last spoke to her right before “entering an out-of-state program that is appropriate for this case.” However, Karen didn’t permit her team to disclose the nature of the program to the public.

Karen Huger’s time of reckoning is upon us

The Washington Post was the first to report that the prosecutor, Jordan Kramer, accused Karen of having three prior alcohol-related traffic cases between the years 2006 to 2011. They resulted in a guilty verdict for driving while impaired and another for driving under the influence. However, Karen served no jail time. In the filing, the prosecutor stated, “The fact that Ms. Huger has repeatedly been given the benefit of another chance on three separate occasions demonstrates that she has not learned anything from her prior arrests. In fact, it appears as if she has been emboldened.”

Karen should be worried ahead of her court date. She could get a maximum of two years in jail. However, the prosecutor is asking that the Real Housewives of Potomac star be given a six-month stint behind bars. This follows Maryland’s sentencing guidelines. Karen is placing her hope in her defense team who is asking she once again be given another chance and that her rehabilitation be a priority. Something tells me a fourth time won’t be so lucky for Karen.

The Real Housewives of Potomac is available to stream on Peacock.
