Long before he became Superman, Geralt, or one of the internet’s favorite fancasts for every square-jawed British franchise role, Henry Cavill was in The Tudors, causing problems in velvet and looking extremely at home doing it, and now that series is being rediscovered all over again.
Starz is carrying the show and there’s a heck of a lot of interest in it. Presumably because of all the saucy scenes appealing to those spicy BookTok users. The series stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Henry VIII, with Cavill as Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk, alongside Natalie Dormer as Anne Boleyn, Sam Neill as Cardinal Wolsey, and Maria Doyle Kennedy as Catherine of Aragon. Cavill’s role is especially fun to revisit now because it captures him before global superstardom but after he had already figured out how to dominate a period-drama frame. The Tudors is well-received among critics, earning solid scores of 69% from critics and 84% from audiences on the review aggregator website, Rotten Tomatoes.
“The Tudors is a history-based drama series following the young, vibrant King Henry VIII, a competitive and lustful monarch who navigates the intrigues of the English court and the human heart with equal vigor and justifiable suspicion.”

What Else Is Henry Cavill Working on Right Now?
He’s a busy man right now. Up next is In the Grey, Guy Ritchie’s action thriller with Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza González. The trailer dropped this week, and the film is set for a May 15, 2026, theatrical release. He’s also shooting Highlander, and the Chad Stahelski reboot is actively filming now. Principal photography began in late January 2026, after a delay from Cavill’s pre-production injury. The cast also includes Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, and Jeremy Irons.
Cavill is also returning as Sherlock Holmes in another Enola Holmes, and Netflix says the movie is coming in summer 2026. The main cast includes Millie Bobby Brown, Louis Partridge, Himesh Patel, Helena Bonham Carter, and Sharon Duncan-Brewster. Amazon MGM and Hasbro officially announced Cavill will be part of the live-action Voltron movie cast, too. The project is real and moving forward, though there is still no official release date in the announcement. Finally, there’s Warhammer 40,000. This is still in development at Amazon, with Cavill attached to star and executive produce. Games Workshop has said Amazon and Cavill have finalized the creative starting point, but it is still early and expected to take time.
The Tudors is streaming now on Starz.
