Tyrese Maxey scored 16 of his 29 points in the first quarter as the Philadelphia 76ers got off to a fast start and extended their winning streak to four games with a 128-113 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday in Inglewood, Calif.

Dominick Barlow scored a career high 26 points with 16 rebounds and Joel Embiid added 24 points as the 76ers matched their longest winning streak of the season while opening a five-game West Coast road trip with a victory. Kelly Oubre Jr. had 15 points for Philadelphia.

The 76ers grabbed an 18-2 lead five minutes into the game, led by as many as 23 points in the first half and swept the two-game season series against Los Angeles.

Kawhi Leonard scored 29 points and Jordan Miller added 21 as the Clippers’ five-game home winning streak came to an end. Kobe Sanders had 17 points, John Collins scored 15 and Brook Lopez added 13 for Los Angeles, which dropped to 17-5 since Dec. 20.

The Clippers were playing their second consecutive game without guard James Harden because of personal reasons, with the veteran starting to emerge in trade rumors ahead of Thursday’s deadline.

The 76ers led 38-19 after one quarter while holding the Clippers to 36.8% from the floor as Maxey went 4 of 5 from 3-point range. Barlow added 11 points in the quarter when Leonard was 0 of 5 for the Clippers.

The Clippers rebounded to score 34 points in the second quarter, but they merely matched the Sixers’ output as Philadelphia led 72-53 at halftime while shooting 10 of 19 (52.6%) from 3-point range.

Los Angeles pulled within 94-83 late in the third quarter before Philadelphia went into the fourth with a 100-87 advantage.

A Leonard dunk got the Clippers back within 115-104 with 5:19 remaining before a Maxey 3-pointer put the Sixers up 120-104 with 4:25 left. Both teams unloaded their bench the rest of the way.

“We are incredibly grateful for the time Aneesah spent with the Connecticut Sun and for the professionalism, commitment, and buy-in she showed from the moment we drafted her,” she said. “She embraced our vision, was a tremendous ambassador for our franchise both on and off the court, and built meaningful relationships with our fans, her teammates, and staff. We wish Aneesah nothing but continued success in the next chapter of her career.”

Maria Kliundikova, meanwhile, was drafted 11th overall in 2018, and last played in the WNBA last season, suiting up for the Minnesota Lynx and averaging 4.4 points and 3 rebounds in 11 minutes per game.

What Aneesah Morrow brings to the Toronto Tempo

The move is a big-time win for the Tempo, who are 10-18 and have struggled with frontcourt availability. Isabella Harrison has appeared in just 16 games, and Nyara Sabally in 19. Right away, Morrow brings young blood — she’s just 23 years old — to the WNBA’s expansion franchise.

Morrow has been pretty durable; she appeared in 41 games in her rookie season, and in 20 (of 29 games) so far this season in Connecticut.

Morrow will also provide a boost on the glass; as it currently stands, the Tempo average 31.1 rebounds per game, the third-fewest in the league. She averaged 13.8 rebounds per 36 minutes, the second-most in the league, trailing only Atlanta Dream forward Madina Okot. And, in her rookie season, she led the league in defensive rebounding rate last year (31.9%).

So, she’ll immediately impact one of the Tempo’s biggest weaknesses.

Alex Bregman hasn’t performed up to expectations in his first season with the Chicago Cubs, but the veteran third baseman is showing positive signs heading into the opener of a three-game series against the visiting New York Yankees on Friday afternoon.

Bregman is coming off a four-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals in which he went 10-for-18 with six doubles, a home run, seven runs scored and three RBIs.

He helped the Cubs win three of four in the set while raising his batting average from .234 to .248 and his OPS from .682 to .722.

Bregman still is a ways away from his career norms of .270 and .835, respectively, but Chicago manager Craig Counsell believes the 32-year-old veteran is heading in the right direction.
