The Greatest Dark Western Movie of All Time Comes to Free Streaming Next Month

If you’ve somehow never experienced one of the most unhinged, intense, and quietly devastating Westerns ever made — your time has come. There Will Be Blood is heading to free streaming next month on Tubi, meaning Paul Thomas Anderson’s oil-soaked masterpiece is about to be available at the low, low price of absolutely nothing.

The 2007 film stars Daniel Day-Lewis in what many consider one of the greatest screen performances of the 21st century. He plays Daniel Plainview, a silver miner turned oilman whose ambition slowly mutates into something darker, lonelier, and far more corrosive, taking Paul Dano along for the ride.

Set at the turn of the 20th century, the film trades traditional Western gunfights for psychological warfare, religious tension, and capitalism at its most feral. It’s dusty, it’s tense, and it builds dread like a horror movie wearing a cowboy hat. And that ending? You won’t look at milkshakes the same way again.

What Was the Recent Controversy Over ‘There Will Be Blood’?

Late last year, Quentin Tarantino took aim at Dano, for reasons unknown, calling him “weak sauce,” “uninteresting,” and “the weakest f***ing actor in SAG,” leading to several actors and fans rushing to defend Dano’s reputation. It stemmed from Tarantino’s appearance on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, where he praised There Will Be Blood as one of the century’s best films but asserted it could have ranked even higher if not for Dano’s performance.

“Obviously, it’s supposed to be a two-hander. [Dano] is weak sauce, man… He’s such a weak, weak, uninteresting guy… You put him with the weakest f***ing actor in SAG? The limpest dick in the world?”

Tarantino even theorized a performer like Austin Butler would have elevated the film, insisting Dano delivered a “non-entity performance.”

Stars including Alec Baldwin and Simu Liu were quick to defend Dano, while screenwriter Mattson Tomlin, now working on The Batman: Part II, which Dano is set to appear in, echoed that sentiment — calling Dano “a terrific actor” and “an astonishing director,” urging audiences to revisit Dano’s acclaimed directorial debut Wildlife.
