Shandi Sullivan is sharing her story in the new docuseries Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model.
The docuseries sees models, judges and America’s Next Top Model insiders, including creator Tyra Banks, reflect on the competition show’s complicated history. Among the participants is former model Sullivan, who claimed that she was sexually assaulted in an onscreen moment that was shaped as her cheating on then-boyfriend Eric with a Vespa driver in Italy.
“I remember him on top of me,” Sullivan said of the driver, recalling that she was “blacked out” drunk at the time. “No one did anything to stop it. And it all got filmed, all of it.”
Executive producer Ken Mok said in the doc that the scene was “scaled back” significantly, but that it “was, for good or bad, one of the most memorable moments in Top Model.” Meanwhile, Banks — an executive producer and host of the reality show — declined to comment on the incident.
“I do remember her story. It’s a little difficult for me to talk about production because that’s not my territory,” she said.

When Was Shandi Sullivan on ‘America’s Next Top Model’?
Shandi Sullivan was a fan favorite on America’s Next Top Model cycle 2 in 2004. The Kansas City, Missouri, native’s Italian colosseum portrait shot for a mock eyewear campaign, in which she wore a frilly pink dress, was widely considered one of the show’s most iconic moments.
Sullivan finished the competition in third place.
Shandi Sullivan Details Alleged Sexual Assault in ‘ANTM’ Docuseries
In the America’s Next Top Model docuseries, Shandi Sullivan claimed that she was sexually assaulted during a group trip to Italy.
“When we first got there, they said, ‘You’re gonna go to a bunch of go-sees,’” she recalled. “That was all day long. It took all day long. And then we went back to our little house that we were staying at.”
The locals who drove the aspiring models around on Vespas were invited to join the cast for dinner. Sullivan said that she had “not eaten” all day and drank “two bottles of wine” by herself.
“I remember getting in the hot tub. I remember April [Wilkner], Mercedes [Scelba-Shorte] getting in the hot tub. And then I just remember the guy looking at me and I looked at him. And I was pretty drunk at that point. Everything kind of after that is just a blur,” she continued. “I was hammered.”

Sullivan said cameras were still rolling as the man allegedly “threw” her in the shower before moving her to a bed.
“I was blacked out for a lot of it. I didn’t even feel sex happening. I just knew it was happening. And then I passed out,” she claimed. “The next day, I woke up. I was, like, ‘Holy s***, what the f*** happened last night?’ It all f***ing hit me. It just flooded over me. I just sat there and cried.”
The incident was shown on ANTM and framed as Sullivan cheating on Eric.
Banks told Sullivan on the show, “Everybody has messed up, Shandi. I’m not judging you. But I think that we have to fight against our carnal desires. I understand that people do become attracted to other people. It’s all about your relationship and how open your relationship is and how honest you can be with one another.”
Executive producer Ken Mok defended the decision to film the scene, saying in the docuseries, “We treated Top Model as a documentary. We told the girls that on the first day when they would show up. We would go over the rules with them like, ‘There’s going be cameras with you 24/7 — day in and day out — and they’re gonna cover everything,’” he recalled. “‘It will cover the good, the bad and everything in between. No matter what happens — while you’re on camera — we’re going to document all of that.’”
Where Is ‘America’s Next Top Model’ Alum Shandi Sullivan Now?
Shandi Sullivan revealed in the docuseries where she ended up after leaving America’s Next Top Model.
“After Top Model, we thought one of us was going to be with a top modeling agency, and that was going to be our new career,” she explained. “[But] no. [I was] still working at Walgreens.”
Sullivan and Eric continued to date for a brief time after the show, but they ultimately broke things off due to intense public scrutiny.
“We tried — he really tried. He moved with me to New York after the show. But it would suck when I’d be walking with Eric down the street and somebody would recognize me and called me a slut to my face,” she said in the doc. “Or [called me] a cheating whore with Eric standing right next to me. It was fun. It made me hate myself.”
Sullivan stopped modeling in 2014. She briefly returned to the profession in 2024 to recreate her Italian colosseum shoot from America’s Next Top Model.
Today, Sullivan works with animals and shared her dream for her future in the docuseries.
“I want to live on a farm and have a sanctuary for animals. I’ve always loved animals,” she revealed.
Sullivan also cohosts the “Urn Fulla Popcorn” podcast about horror films with Whitest Kids U’Know star Timmy Williams.
