Ronda Rousey is getting back in the ring.
Nearly a decade after her last MMA fight, the mixed martial artist announced she would be coming out of retirement to take on fellow former fighter Gina Carano.
“Been waiting so long to announce this: Me and Gina Carano are gonna throw down in the biggest super fight in women’s combat sport history!” Ronda said in a Feb. 17 statement to ESPN. “This is for all MMA fans past, present and future. More to come… much more.”
The showdown between Ronda and Gina—organized by Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions—will stream live May 16 on Netflix.
Following her career in MMA, Ronda—mom to daughters La’akea Browne, 4, and Liko’ula Browne, 13 months, with husband Travis Browne—wrestled with WWE until 2023 and has starred in the Fast & Furious and The Expendables franchises. For her part, Gina last competed in 2009 and has since appeared in Fast & Furious 6, Deadpool and The Mandalorian.
After Ronda, 39, announced her upcoming fight, Gina detailed how the matchup came to be.Â
