“Think I’m some kind of maniac?!” Picturehouse has revealed the teaser for an acclaimed indie dark comedy called Our Hero, Balthazar, made by filmmaker Oscar Boyson as his big feature directorial debut after many other shorts. This premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival last year, and played at the Vancouver, Adelaide, Tallgrass, Rome Film Festivals as well. Eager to impress his activist crush, a wealthy New York teenager follows an online connection to Texas, where he’s convinced he can stop an act of extreme violence. A dark comedy about young men in America – and how crazy and cooked so many of these kids are these days. Anchored by a transformative performance from Asa Butterfield (wait – that’s him?!), the film also stars Jaeden Martell, Chris Bauer, Jennifer Ehle, Anna Baryshnikov, Noah Centineo, Becky Ann Baker, Avan Jogia, and Pippa Knowles. This definitely looks audacious and totally wild, hopefully not going too off the rails by the time it gets where it’s going. It also reminds me of Sovereign. Take a look.
Here’s the first teaser trailer (+ poster) for Oscar Boyson’s film Our Hero, Balthazar, from YouTube:

“A screw-loose buddy movie for our time.” The bold comedy-drama tells the story of a wealthy New York City teenager who, eager to impress his activist crush, follows an online connection to Texas where he believes he can stop an act of extreme violence. A comedy (sort of) about young men in America. Our Hero, Balthazar is directed by the American indie producer / filmmaker Oscar Boyson, now making his feature directorial debut after many other short films previously, as well as producing various indie projects. The screenplay is written by Oscar Boyson & Ricky Camilleri. Produced by Oscar Boyson, Ricky Camilleri, Jon Wroblewski, David Duque-Estrada, Miles Skinner, Alex Hughes, Jaeden Martell. This initially premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival last year. Picturehouse US will release Oscar Boyson’s Our Hero, Balthazar film in select US theaters starting March 27th, 2026 with more cities to follow. Who wants to watch this?
