3 Best Movies To Watch On Prime Video This Week (Feb 23-27)

If you’re having a hard time picking movies to watch this week on Prime Video, look no further than this trio of guaranteed crowd-pleasers. Behind Netflix, Amazon’s Prime Video is perhaps the biggest name in streaming. They were one of the first brands to adopt the streaming model, and it helped launch them to the top of the competitive market.

Mixing a conventional streaming catalog with a digital storefront, Prime Video carries nearly every movie in history. Add on top their ever-growing library of original movies and TV shows, and it’s almost impossible to make a selection. However, some of the best movies on Prime Video rise above the crowd, and this curated list is a trifecta that’s worth watching.

The Mothman Prophecies (2002)

Richard Gere talks to a woman through a car window in The Mothman Prophecies

Starting off with a trip to the spookier side, The Mothman Prophecies is an eerie little hidden gem from the early Aughts. Richard Gere stars as John Klein, a journalist who investigates sightings of Mothman in a small town in West Virginia. Part conspiracy thriller and part supernatural horror, The Mothman Prophecies is an atmospheric thrill ride.

Unlike most 2000s horror films, there’s a subtlety to the underrated flick. It succeeds at creeping the viewer out without having to be too overt. There are a lot of classic horror movies on Prime Video, but The Mothman Prophecies is a perfect choice because it’s quite underseen. Even upon second viewing, it is still a hair-raising good time.

Saltburn (2023)

With Emerald Fennell’s divisive adaptation of Wuthering Heights in theaters, now is a great time to look back on her last controversial film. Saltburn follows a student who is invited to stay at the estate of a wealthy Oxford classmate, only for him to get pulled into some seriously twisted family drama. The dark comedy generated a lot of buzz.

The film is intentionally challenging, and its thinly-veiled commentary about class is overshadowed by its own oddball twists. It propelled Jacob Elordi into the spotlight, and all the film’s performances are stellar. Newish movies on Prime Video are common, but few are in the same must-see territory as Saltburn. Perhaps that’s why it’s consistently in the streaming top 10.

The Rules Of Attraction (2002)

For a dose of nostalgia, why not head back to the early 2000s with The Rules of Attraction. The raunchy dark sex comedy concerns students at an exclusive college who get into a bizarre love triangle. Springing from the pages of the Bret Easton Ellis novel, The Rules of Attraction is sarcastic and sinister.

The Rules of Attraction is loosely connected to Bret Easton Ellis’ American Psycho.

It co-stars the late James Van Der Beek, and also features a slew of up-and-comers who would gain popularity throughout the Aughts. The problem with the film’s initial release was marketing, and it looked like a conventional sex comedy while actually being something much funnier and darker. It’s one of the best hidden gems currently in Prime Video‘s catalog.
