Bride’s Friend Says She’s ‘Planning Fyre Festival of Weddings’ with Guests Needing to Bring Chairs & More Disastrous Details

A woman is shocked as her friend plans what she is describing as the “Fyre Festival of weddings.”

Taking to Reddit’s “Wedding Shaming” forum, the woman noted that every single detail about the wedding seems as disastrous as one can possibly imagine. So much so, that she thinks it’s fair to compare the nuptials to the failed 2017 festival that was billed as a luxury event but wound up being anything but.

She shared shocking details about the big day, building up to one fact that even she had a hard time believing.

In her post, the Redditor said that even the date and location for the wedding were bad as her friend insisted on getting married on Christmas Eve and in a city that it’ll be “dreadfully expensive” for many of their 80 to 100 guests to travel to.

The bride’s plans would put her at nearly double her maximum budget, and she wants to dedicate as much of that money as possible to the ceremony, which is going to run for two hours and feature 20 readings from her family and friends.

However, her groom-to-be wants to have a party after the lengthy ceremony.

“So if they have any sort of slightly formal one they intend guests to pay for their food and drinks (not just alcohol but soft drinks as well). Alternatively they’re going to ask people to stop in at a grocery store and pick up a few things to bring to the ceremony for afterward,” she wrote.

Guests would even need to bring their own chairs.

Although the ceremony is the bride’s main focus, her friend said that she isn’t letting her groom write his own vows and will be using ChatGPT for hers, too.

Since the wedding is over the holidays and requires people to travel great distances, the bride is apparently “going to give an itinerary to anyone who is stuck” on Christmas day without plans.

Those guests will not be invited to the bride’s own holiday events.

The friend wasn’t sure if this was a blessing or a diss, but she said that the bride wasn’t even inviting her to the wedding, writing, “She informed me that the reason she had been waffling all this nonsense to me for hours and hours for the last couple of months and having me help her figure things out is because she is ‘including’ me in the planning part.”

“This means I don’t get an invite because I get to have all my fun and inclusion that way! The friend she has asked to host her hen’s night/bridal shower also doesn’t get an invite because she gets to have her fun planning and running and paying for that event! That friend doesn’t know this yet,” she wrote.

When the Redditor opened up about some concerns to the bride, “she got incredibly upset with me and told me I was being unsupportive.”

“When I suggested they take a minute and consider everything she told me that things have been booked and people invited and it’s full steam ahead and I could get on board or get off. I decided to get off,” she ultimately wrote.

Fellow Redditors reacted to the over-the-top wedding plans with shock and humor.

“I’ll be surprised if the engagement lasts until Christmas Eve,” one person wrote.

Another noted that the friend seemingly got lucky by not getting an actual invite, writing, “Wellll…. I might prefer this ‘inclusion’ over an invite for that! Be sure to give a suitable gift. Telling her all the features of a blender, maybe.”

“Id be so mad at a friend for this but this is so entertaining from a stranger 😭🤣 im sorry,” another amused person wrote.

Summing it up perfectly, one final user said, “The way I raised my eyebrows more and more with each paragraph… brb, I have to go retrieve them from the ceiling.”
