Resident Evil Requiem’s Scariest Boss Just Got Nerfed In The Funniest Way

One boss fight in Resident Evil Requiem is arguably far more scary and surprising than the rest, and it will be doubly scary for anyone with arachnophobia — Titan Spinner, a giant black spider that is as horrifying as it is beautifully rendered. Thankfully, anyone playing Resident Evil Requiem on PC won’t have to fear it any longer.

Nexus Mods user ZombieAli has created a mod that replaces this massive spider’s model with Thomas the Tank Engine. Frightening in its own unique way, this mod may be greatly amusing to anyone who isn’t afraid of spiders, and a balm to anyone who has endured all they can with Resident Evil Requiem’s horrors and has drawn the line at a hulking spider hunting them in Raccoon City.

RE9 Has An Unofficial ‘Arachnophobia Mode’

Resident Evil Requiem is easily one of the scariest games in the entire Resident Evil series, exceeded maybe by the first game’s remake or Resident Evil 7. Titan Spinner plays no small part in making Resident Evil Requiem as scary as it is, and it will obviously perturb anyone who suffers from severe arachnophobia.

However, to say that ZombieAli’s Thomas the Tank Engine mod for Resident Evil Requiem doesn’t inspire fear isn’t wholly true. It can be just as haunting seeing Thomas descend onto and shove itself through tight building corridors toward Leon S. Kennedy, especially as it bears a big, eerie smile.

Players who dabble in mods and have a crippling fear of spiders have ZombieAli to thank, unless it turns out that Thomas scares them more. Plus, not only does this mod replace Titan Spinner, but also all of its smaller spider spawns.

ZombieAli previously modded Thomas the Tank Engine into the Silent Hill 2 remake, replacing Pyramid Head. Furthermore, one of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice’s most popular mods is a Thomas reskin for the Great Serpents, complete with blaring whistles and horns.

Resident Evil Hasn’t Had Spiders In A While

It has been more than two decades since actual spiders were enemies in the Resident Evil franchise. While they appear in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, giant spider enemies were not reprised for the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes.

As such, it would’ve been almost impossible to reliably predict that an enormous spider would appear, and certainly not as a terrific set-piece boss fight as soon as Leon arrives in the ash-blanketed ruins of Raccoon City. This makes it even scarier, coupled with the fact that Titan Spinner looks terrifying in Capcom’s RE Engine, the environment that immediately precedes the boss fight in Resident Evil Requiem teases giant spiders via cars suspended in webbing, and Titan Spinner repeatedly jump-scares the player during the sprawling boss fight.
