The character was first introduced in comics in 1971 and became the primary Green Lantern for an entire generation of fans through the early 2000s animated Justice League series and its follow-up, Justice League Unlimited. He is not a sidekick or a supporting player. He is one of the most prominent members of the Green Lantern Corps, the intergalactic peacekeeping force that patrols the universe using power rings fueled by willpower.

In “Lanterns,” Pierre plays Stewart as a recruit to the Corps, learning the ropes from veteran Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler. The series follows the two as intergalactic cops pulled into a murder investigation in the American heartland that slowly unravels a far larger conspiracy tied to the wider DC universe. The returning cast includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Maria Gabriella de Faria as The Engineer. Beyond his DC commitments, he has also been cast in Shawn Levy’s upcoming “Star Wars: Starfighter,” making him one of the most in-demand actors currently operating across major franchise filmmaking. He is carrying two of the biggest properties in popular culture simultaneously, and on the evidence of Rebel Ridge, the confidence being placed in him seems well-founded.

For the DCU, his casting in “Man of Tomorrow” represents something beyond one actor’s good fortune. The 2025-released “Superman” earned strong reviews and $615 million globally, giving Gunn a genuine foundation to build from.
