Dad fits have evolved in leaps and bounds over the decades, but their core elements—be it a sweater vest and khakis or a flannel and work pants—will always be cool. Take, for example, new(ish) dad Robert Pattinson, who just sauntered over to Jimmy Kimmel Live! wearing an exemplary take on the modern-day dad fit.

Following a blitz of media appearances promoting his upcoming movie The Drama, a forthcoming dramedy also starring Zendaya, Pattinson hit the Kimmel lot in peak Pattinson form, down to his enviably tousled hair and blocky Dior shades. The rest of his outfit—relaxed suede jacket, distressed light-wash jeans—skewed as laid-back as you’d expect, more low-key art director than megawatt leading man.

And while the Dior ambassador could’ve easily laced up a pair of the French maison’s $1,000 sneakers, Pattinson opted for nondescript kicks far more authentic to the ethos of cool-dad style: Clarks’ Desert Trek boots.
