Five Love Stories Love Story Should Tackle Next

In the run-up to Love Story‘s season 1 finale, creator Connor Hines suggested that a second season of the Ryan Murphy-produced series—which spent this season documenting the tempestuous and ultimately tragic relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette—might tackle the equally stormy history of twice-married, twice-divorced screen legends Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton next. Taylor and Burton, Hines mused to Vanity Fair, have “the right intensity.”

Going from American royalty to Hollywood royalty is a natural leap. But if there’s one thing we know about Ryan Murphy, it’s that the man loves a long-running franchise, which means he’s probably got his romantic-drama hounds sniffing the ground furiously, in search of other couples who’d be prime for the Love Story treatment. Below, a few ideas for future seasons:

Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen

The unfortunate story of these tragic punk rock sweethearts—Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious’s girlfriend Nancy Spungen was stabbed to death in blurry circumstances at the Chelsea Hotel, and Vicious, accused of her murder, fatally overdosed on heroin three months later—has already been immortalized in the 1986 film Sid and Nancy. But a Ryan Murphy-produced television series feels like it could dig into the scene with fresh eyes (and elite taste for needle drops). This is where I wishcast Sydney Sweeney as Nancy, because I think she’d crush it.
