On Wednesday, the social media timeline was filled with fake fashion news, like reports of Matthieu Blazy leaving Chanel and Schiaparelli partnering with H&M. (Don’t you just love April Fools’ Day?)

One day later, it’s back to serious mode, starting with, of course, another creative director exit: Carven announced its design director Mark Thomas is exiting his role in pursuit of other opportunities. He officially leaves at the end of the month.

“I would like to sincerely thank every person I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the past few years for helping shape new chapters in this beautiful house,” Thomas said in a press statement. “I am deeply grateful to Madame Shawna Tao and Mr. Ye for the opportunity they gave me, and I hold the utmost respect for Madame Carven, who founded this maison in 1945. As I look ahead to new adventures, I wish the brand continued success and a bright future.”

The Central Saint Martins graduate joined Carven in 2023 as head of sartorial and creative collaborations. When the then-design director Louise Trotter departed in December 2024 to join Bottega Veneta, Thomas was promoted to the position. Prior to working at the French Maison, he held various design roles at labels including Givenchy, Lacoste, Helmut Lang, Joseph and Neil Barrett.

Carven has not named Thomas’ successor, but “the next steps of the House will be announced in due course this year,” per the press release.

Thomas joins a roster of high-profile designers exiting top luxury houses recently, including Marco De Vincenzo leaving Etro, Harris Reedparting ways with Nina Ricci and Olivier Rousteing bidding adieu to Balmain (now helmed by Antonin Tron), among many others.
