Deadspin | Dick Vitale announces ‘abnormalities’ discovered during latest scans Legendary broadcaster Dick Vitale greets the rest of the broadcasting table during the first half of an NCAA Mens basketball game at Steven C. O’Connell Center Exactek arena in Gainesville, FL on Sunday, February 1, 2026. [Alan Youngblood/Gainesville Sun] Legendary broadcaster Dick Vitale announced Wednesday that “some abnormalities” were discovered after the 86-year-old underwent a series of scans last week. He is scheduled for a biopsy on Friday. “Like countless others, each time I go for any kind of test I am a nervous wreck,” Vitale, who has been battling cancer since 2021, said in a statement issued by ESPN. “The latest example is my scans last week. The anxiousness you feel about the uncertainty is off the charts. You just never know what’s next and it can be surprising or scary. While I feel great physically and mentally, I heard from doctors that the latest tests (a PET scan, CAT scan and two MRIs) showed some abnormalities. “They are recommending some additional testing to determine next steps,” Vitale added in his statement. “I’m hoping for the best, and we will see what the roadmap looks like after the upcoming biopsy.” Vitale, 86, was diagnosed with melanoma and lymphoma in 2021 and vocal cord cancer in 2023. He also underwent surgery to address lymph node cancer in 2024. He returned to broadcasting last year and called a First Four game last month between North Carolina State and Texas alongside Charles Barkley. “Our teammate. Our friend. We love you, @DickieV. In your corner, always,” ESPN posted on X. A native of Passaic, New Jersey, who coached college and pro basketball, Vitale debuted with ESPN during the 1979-80 college basketball season. He became one of college basketball’s most popular broadcasters and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008. He lives in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., with his wife, Lorraine. “As always,” Vitale said in the statement, “I plan to remain as active as ever and fight as hard as can be.” –Field Level Media #Deadspin #Dick #Vitale #announces #abnormalities #discovered #latest #scans

Boston selected Murphy in the sixth round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of the University of San Diego. Eisert, 28, is a career 3-8 with two saves, a 4.36 ERA, 29 walks and 76 strikeouts in 76 1/3 innings for the Toronto Blue Jays (three games in 2024) and White Sox (72 games in 2025). Manchester United will play pre-season friendlies in Finland, Norway and Sweden, the Premier League giant announced Thursday.

The four games are in addition to a match against bitter rival Leeds — its Old Trafford opponent in a league match on Monday — in Dublin on August 12.

United faces Wrexham, owned by the Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki on July 18. The Red Devils then travel to Norway to play Rosenborg at Trondheim’s Lerkendal Stadium six days later.

The Swedish leg of its tour features a game against Atletico Madrid in the Snapdragon Cup at the Strawberry Arena on August 1 before it takes on Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg the following week.

Manchester United director of football Jason Wilcox told the club’s website: “Following the announcement of our match against Leeds in Dublin, we’re excited to confirm four more pre-season fixtures in the Nordics.

“We’re delighted to be playing in some fantastic cities, against opponents who will provide a strong test for us.

“We have the best fans in the world, and this schedule gives us a great opportunity to connect with our supporters across Europe. We’re really looking forward to getting out there and putting in the hard work ahead of a big season.”

United has enjoyed an impressive resurgence since former Old Trafford favourite Michael Carrick took caretaker charge after Darren Fletcher was briefly at the helm following the end of Ruben Amorim’s turbulent 14 months’ reign in January. The Red Devils have risen to third in the Premier League which puts a return to the Champions League in sight.
