Mandatory Credit: John Jones-Imagn Images The Toronto Raptors can clinch a top-six playoff spot with a win on Sunday night against the visiting Brooklyn Nets in the teams’ regular-season finale. The Raptors (45-36) dropped to sixth — the final guaranteed playoff spot — in the Eastern Conference on Friday night with a 112-95 road loss to the New York Knicks. Toronto could finish fifth if it beats the Nets and if both the Atlanta Hawks and Orlando Magic lose. “All antennas are up, one game to go, the final of the season,” Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic said. “We’ve got to find the best focus, the best version of ourselves. We have to be at the peak of our performance for that game.” The Raptors have won two of three against the Nets (20-61) this season. The Nets’ win over the Raptors came in their most recent meeting, 96-81, on Dec. 21. The Nets have dropped two games in a row, most recently a 125-108 road loss to Milwaukee Bucks on Friday. The losses followed two straight wins. Tyson Etienne led the Nets with a career-best 23 points, shooting 6-for-12 from 3-point range. Malachi Smith had 19 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists. He was 5-for-7 from long range. If the Raptors finish sixth, they would face the third-seeded Knicks in the first round of the playoffs, a difficult draw. The Knicks have defeated the Raptors in 13 consecutive games, including five times this season. As for the Nets, they sit third in the lottery standings. “This year was rough obviously,” said Nets center Nic Claxton, who did not play Friday because of a sprained finger. “So we’ve got (one more game), we flush that out, we get back to the drawing board this summer, and we go from there. Obviously, everybody, we want to be in a winning situation. We all want to win, so that’s what we’re striving to get back to. And whatever we need to do to get back to that process as quickly as we can, that’s what we’ll do.” The Raptors could have clinched at least a sixth-place finish by winning Friday. Their downfall was the second quarter, when they were outscored 29-15. “I thought we were there the whole game, competing,” Rajakovic said. “We had a couple of opportunities to get completely back in the game. Unfortunately, the ball bounced their way tonight. I thought the first quarter was very, very competitive. I thought defensively we did a very good job. On offense we can do a better job of setting screens, freeing up teammates so we can create some flow on the offensive end.” Toronto played without Immanuel Quickley (foot injury management), Collin Murray-Boyles (neck sprain) and RJ Barrett (sore right knee). Barrett was a late scratch. Reserve Sandro Mamukelashvili led Toronto scoring with 17 points. Brandon Ingram scored 16, and Scottie Barnes and Ja’Kobe Walter recorded 15 points apiece. Rajakovic reached 100 total wins with the Raptors with a victory over Miami on Thursday. Ingram has been a key player this season in the Raptors’ improvement, and he credited Rajakovic. “He holds me accountable on and off the floor,” Ingram said. “He tells me what I need to do, whether I want to hear it or not. He’s made me a better defender. He’s made me care about that side of the basketball more, and on the offensive end, he just wants the best for me, and he’s there to communicate.” –Field Level Media #Deadspin #Raptors #strive #secure #topsix #playoff #spot #clash #Nets

रफ्तार में लवकुश फ्लाईओवर का काम: इंदौर में दूसरी 400 टन वजनी गर्डर का निर्माण शुरू, एक महीने में होगी तैयार

Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomandé has completed his transfer from RB Leipzig to Real Madrid, the La Liga club announced on Thursday.

“Real Madrid CF and RB Leipzig have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Yan Diomande, who will be linked to our club for the next seven seasons, until June 30, 2033,” the Spanish club said in a statement.

The 19-year-old becomes the latest signing of new manager Jose Mourinho, who has already roped in Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konaté, Carlos Espí and World Cup winner Marc Cucurella to revamp the squad before the 2026-27 season.

Though the fee was not announced, media reports claim it was around €140 million, a club record, including add-ons. Diomande’s reported deal involves a guaranteed fee of €125 million, with the deal having multiple add-ons that could see the 15-time European champion shell out €15 million more.

The 19-year-old winger had been heavily linked with Los Blancos after the FIFA World Cup 2026, where he had impressed with the Elephants, becoming their youngest-ever player in the tournament.

Diomande earned the Player of the Match in Ivory Coast’s opening match in the World Cup — which the team won 1-0 over Ecuador — and provided an assist in their 2-0 win over Curacao. He featured in all matches of Ivory Coast at the World Cup as the team qualified for the knockouts for the first time.

Last season, Diomande scored 13 goals and assisted 10 more for Leipzig, which included a hat-trick against Eintracht Frankfurt, becoming the second youngest player to achieve this feat in Bundesliga history behind only Walter Bechtold in 1965.

Deadspin | Preakness pushes date back to 22 days after Kentucky Derby May 20, 2023; Baltimore, Maryland, USA; General view of the winners circle at Pimlico Race Course. Mandatory Credit: Gregory Fisher-Imagn Images In an effort to attract more horses who compete in the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes is pushing back its date in 2027. The event at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore will be held on May 23, a Sunday, 22 days after the first leg of the Triple Crown is contested at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. Over the past five years, 82 out of 95 horses that ran in the Kentucky Derby sat out the Preakness. Bill Knauf, president and general manager of the Maryland Jockey Club, said in a statement, “Moving the Preakness to the fourth weekend in May is a historic announcement. We believe the Preakness and the entire Triple Crown series are positioned for growth and great success. This extra week between the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness opens the Preakness to potential participants who use modern training methods.” The Preakness also announced a broadcasting extension with NBC and Peacock through 2032. The date change includes moving the Black Eyed Susan Stakes, a top race for 3-year-old fillies, to the fourth Saturday in May. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said, “This agreement now means millions more people will be able to tune in and watch this iconic race weekend. It also means that when they view this race … it means that more people will watch and witness the greatest show in the Mid-Atlantic and continue to see Maryland on the world stage, exactly where Maryland belongs.” While the Preakness’ new date eases the tight window between the first two legs of the sport’s Triple Crown, it tightens the window between the last two. The Belmont Stakes in Elmont, N.Y., is scheduled for June 5, 2027, just 13 days after the Preakness. Knauf said, “Our focus is to preserve the tradition of horses running back in the Preakness and to enhance participation in the Triple Crown races. We acknowledge the great history of the traditional Triple Crown spacing between races, but recognize that change must always be examined. This is common in all professional sports. Now is the time for the Preakness.” The Preakness revealed its new plan in the wake of the formation of the Thoroughbred Championship Series, which will feature the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes but not the Baltimore race. The new six-race venture will feature three races at Churchill Downs, two at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., as well as the Belmont. –Field Level Media #Deadspin #Preakness #pushes #date #days #Kentucky #DerbyMay 20, 2023; Baltimore, Maryland, USA; General view of the winners circle at Pimlico Race Course.
