Adria Arjona lands role in Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow

DC‘s Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, is reportedly bringing another comic book character into the mix: Maxima, the warrior queen from the planet Almerac. Last week, there were reports that Grace Van Patten (Tell Me Lies), Eva De Dominici (The Cleaning Lady), Sydney Chandler (Alien: Earth), and Adria Arjona (Hit Man) were all pursuing the role – although director James Gunn denied reports that Marisa Abela (Back to Black) and Ella Purnell (Fallout) were also in the mix. Now, it looks like we have a winner: The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that, after last week’s round of screen tests, Adria Arjona has won a role in Man of Tomorrow. They did not, however, confirm that the role is Maxima.

Arjona playing Maxima would actually be a disappointment for a lot of fans, as many have been hoping she’ll be the new Wonder Woman.

Who is Maxima?

Deadline reminded us that Maxima was first introduced in the pages of Action Comics #645 in 1990, when she arrived on Earth in search of a suitable mate and quickly set her sights on Superman. Created by writer Roger Stern and artist George Pérez, “the character is depicted at various times in DC’s comics as an antagonist, ally, and would-be love interest to Superman.” The character was featured the series Smallville and Supergirl, where she was played by Charlotte Sullivan and Eve Torres Gracie, respectively. The character was also in Superman: The Animated Series and other animated projects, but has never been depicted in a live-action DC film.

Until now. Maybe.

I’m currently watching my way through Smallville for the first time but I haven’t reached the appearance of Maxima yet, so I’m not familiar with this character.

Who’s returning for the Superman sequel?

Man of Tomorrow finds James Gunn returning as the sequel’s director and writer, with a story that sees Superman and Lex Luthor matching wits and might with the villain Brainiac, played by German actor Lars Eidinger.

Production for Man of Tomorrow should begin this summer in Atlanta, with several cast members from the original film returning, including David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher.

Others expected to return are Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Maria Gabriella de Faria as The Engineer.

Aaron Pierre, who plays John Stewart in the upcoming HBO series Lanterns, will be reprising that role in Man of Tomorrow.

Carnell Tate goes to Chiefs at pick No. 9 thanks to Arrowhead Pride in SB Nation’s community mock draft

Wide receiver Carnell Tate, Ohio State

In general manager Brett Veach’s shoes, I saw the board unfold in a way that allowed at least one of three players to reach the ninth spot by the time the 6th pick was determined: Safety Caleb Downs of Ohio State, Edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. of Miami and Tate

Honestly, one of the two plug-and-play defensive playmakers would have been preferred, but there’s something refreshing about Tate being added to a receiving corps that seemingly complements his skillset well.

Tate is a downfield playmaker with ball-winning skills the Chiefs have never valued in their starting receivers. The organization values speed, yards-after-catch ability and versatility in alignment. The existing group of Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy and Tyquan Thornton provide a lot of those attributes to the Chiefs’ offense, but Tate feels like a cherry on top as an outside receiver who can bring more explosive plays to the offense and force defenses to respect the downfield passing game.

It feels like a safe pick in the sense that Tate’s floor still feels like a valuable piece to KC’s offense as it stands now, but the hope is that Tate can transform into a true, do-it-all No. 1 wideout for the Chiefs, and it’s not an unrealistic end goal.

#Carnell #Tate #Chiefs #pick #Arrowhead #Pride #Nations #community #mock #draft
