One of DC Comics’ most iconic Justice League heroes has just debuted his best redesign of all time. The fact that this particular hero has received a redesign at all is notable, given that the character’s look has remained relatively consistent over the years. Hence, this change stands out as both monumental and unprecedented.
Writer Tate Brombal and artist Sami Basri return with part two of their “The Future Is Tomorrow” story arc in their ongoing series New Titans. The previous issue saw Red Devil, Spoiler, Jon Kent, and Yara Flor blast through Titans Tower, announcing that they were the new Titans and had arrived to save the “old” Titans from a danger that had yet to be revealed.
New Titans #34 delivers several major twists and revelations. Among them is the reveal of a fully human Cyborg joining the other heroes. When asked what is going on, Victor explains that his human and cyborg sides were separated, with each half forming into a new whole. This results in both a fully human and a fully robotic Cyborg, giving Victor Stone his most radical and epic redesign yet.
DC’s Cyborg Unlocks Awesome Redesign Following DC K.O.
Comic Pages Come from Tate Brombal’s New Titans #34 (2026) – Art by Sami Basri
In New Titans #34, Victor reveals that Nightwing, Starfire, and Terra have been living in a mecha world that his machine-self constructed in a misguided attempt to protect them. In other words, the three Titans have been unknowingly living alongside the fully machine version of Cyborg and virtual constructs of the other Titans in a fabricated reality, all while being drugged through their coffee to keep them from realizing the truth.
Victor also explains that his human and machine selves became separated as a result of DC K.O.. This event served as Earth’s latest crisis, pitting heroes and villains against one another in tournament-style deathmatches. The goal was for a single champion to gather enough Omega energy to challenge Darkseid, who had become King Omega Darkseid, and defeat him before he could destroy the universe.
As Victor explains, in the aftermath of the Omega Tournament he found himself supercharged with Alpha Energy. That energy tore him in half before completing both his human and machine halves. The Alpha energy also made his machine-half more powerful than ever before, with even Victor himself unsure of what his machine-half’s true limits might be.
Victor’s machine-half appears to be operating on faulty logic, however. It kidnapped Nightwing, Starfire, and Terra and constructed a false reality for them to live in. Worse still, the machine-half is likely working its way toward kidnapping the other Titans as well in order to complete its idea of a “family.” In short, this is Cyborg as readers have never seen him before.
While Victor’s fully human form is understandably more unassuming, his full-machine design is nothing short of epic. Seeing his human body and machine form side by side further highlights the stark contrast and the extreme nature of the redesign. This may be one of the first times in DC history that a character has been split into two in the way Victor has, resulting in an exceptionally unique transformation and arguably Cyborg’s best redesign of all time.
