We finally have our first official look at Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced ahead of its release on July 9, 2026, and it promises to be one very big swashbuckling reunion with Edward Kenway. Entirely rebuilt on Ubisoft’s latest Anvil Engine, Ubisoft is setting out to deliver a “faithful remake” that will continue to be a “solo adventure and character-driven experience”, with game director Richard Knight stressing “it is not an RPG”.
But we can also expect to set sail with some exciting new content and changes that aim to improve the original 2013 experience. Alongside a visual overhaul with high resolution textures, enhanced lighting, and a new dynamic weather system that will make the Caribbean setting feel more alive, here are the five biggest changes that will be introduced in the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced remake.
5. The combat system has been reworked
The combat in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has been reworked into an “action oriented experience” that sees you perform faster, more fluid attacks and parries. Successfully landing a parry will allow you to follow up with “up to four-chained takedowns” , so you can take out foes with flourish. With dual swords, pistols, and hidden blades in your arsenal, the reveal also showed off the return of the grappling hook and smoke bombs, as well as the fact that we can now use walls, ledges, and breakables in the environment to our advantage in combat.

4. Parkour and stealth have been improved
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will also benefit from the tighter controls and fluid movement of more recent Assassin’s Creed games. With parkour building “on the latest design improvements”, Kenway will be able to free jump, and perform back and side ejects from ledges. With more reactive movements overall, the stealth system has also been refined, meaning that Kenway can now crouch freely at any time during your adventures to let you be a truly sneaky pirate.
3. Jackdaw enhancements and no more loading screens
The trusty Jackdaw ship has gotten some enhancement, with more fire power and new upgrades. Plus, you can now take to the seas with your very own pet cat or monkey on board. Better yet, your adventures at sea will no longer see you enter a loading screen when you go to set anchor up at one of the major cities. Yes, the loading screens of the 2013 adventure will be a thing of the past in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, with “seamless access to cities and locations” to make the world feel more alive and immersive as you sail from port to port.
2. New quests and storylines
As a story-driven adventure, Ubisoft confirmed that Black Flags multiplayer and DLC won’t be making a return, but we will be getting additional story content and missions, with Kenway actor Matt Ryan capturing new mocap scenes for the remake. So far, we know Resynced will include three new recruitable officers for the Jackdaw who each have their own unique abilities and storylines to discover, narrative arcs for familiar faces like Blackbeard and Stede, and a scene with Kenway’s wife Caroline. Existing tailing and eavesdropping missions have also been revamped, too, meaning you’ll no longer be instantly desynchronized upon detection like you were in the original.
Modern side of the story will feature “new moments”
In the original Black Flag, the modern day side of the story relating to Abstergo all took place in first-person after Desmond’s story came to a close in Assassin’s Creed 3. Original Black Flag creative director Jean Guesdon said this was a “transition moment” for the series because of “Desmond’s story and what it meant at the time”, but for Black Flag Resynced, the team recognized a need to make some changes. Now, as the “modern day has evolved”, Resynced will be approaching the modern day with a focus on Edward’s journey, with, in the words of current creative director Paul Fu, “modern day rifts” featuring “new moments that focus on Edward’s internal struggles”.
