NBC’s Sara Gore Steps Away From Hosting Gigs After Breast Cancer Diagnosis: ‘You’re Never Ready’

NBC host Sara Gore is taking a step back from her Open House and New York Live hosting gigs after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis.

“An announcement from Sara Gore,” the official New York Live Instagram account captioned a video on Thursday, April 30. “Our New York Live family is sending her all of our love.”

Gore, 49, was emotional as she started to share something “a little more personal” with viewers in the clip.

“I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and I’m going to be stepping away for treatment and surgery,” Gore explained. “If I didn’t say that I was a little bit scared, I’d be lying — and caught off guard, quite frankly, because I watched my mother and my sister go through this.”

Gore said she “always knew” that she was “high risk” for breast cancer because of her family history.

“I always assumed this day would come,” she continued. “But let me tell you, you’re never ready. You’re just never ready, for some reason, even when you catch it early because you’re doing everything right.”

Gore held back tears as she added, “It is an emotional blow and I wasn’t ready for that. That actually really surprised me. It really stung.”

Many celebrities have spoken out about their personal battles with breast cancer over the years. Julia Louis-Dreyfus went public with her breast cancer diagnosis in September 2017 via Instagram. Nearly one year later, she had successfully beaten the illness and returned to work on Veep. “It sounds kind of corny, but there’s something about after […]

Gore assured viewers that she is “exactly” where she needs to be and is “surrounded by incredible doctors and people who are taking such good care of me” both at home and work.

Gore has been a part of the NBC family for 20 years, hosting Open House for 18 years and New York Live for 16 years.

“I feel very supported and as hard as this is, I’m choosing to believe — at least for me, in this moment in time — that maybe there is a gift in this even if I don’t fully understand what it is yet,” Gore added. “I’m working on that part.”

She concluded, “If anything, it’s already a reminder of how precious life is and how important it is to focus on what really matters … I’m going to come back better than ever, and I’m going to see you on the other side of this.”

The social media video garnered well wishes from several notable names.

“Sending you love and healing!!!!!!!!!” Andy Cohen wrote in the comments section. “You got this!!!!!”

Today show host Craig Melvin also chimed in.

“You got this, Sara,” he wrote.

IPL 2026: MS Dhoni will be back soon, CSK batting coach Hussey

On the eve of Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2026 clash against Mumbai Indians at the M. Dhoni’s recovery from a calf injury.

Dhoni, who has been sidelined for three weeks, has travelled with the squad to Hyderabad and Mumbai after clearing a fitness test, though he is yet to feature in a match.

“M.S. is going really well. Hopefully, he’ll be back as soon as possible. I’m not sure if that will be tomorrow or the match after, but he’s progressing well,” Hussey said.

READ | Dhoni’s return delayed after calf injury worsened, reveals Fleming

The primary concern, Hussey explained, has been Dhoni’s ability to sustain running intensity. “He’s been working on his running speeds, which was probably the main concern. From a skill perspective, we’re very confident in his batting and wicketkeeping. It was more about ensuring he can maintain good running power, especially towards the back end of an innings where quick singles and twos are crucial.”

Hussey added that the final call rests with Dhoni. “Once he feels confident in his calf, I’m sure he’ll give the signal that he’s ready to go.
