We’re calling it the North West and Blue Ivy Carter effect. eBay just dropped their Watchlist Trend Report, which spotlights some of the retailer’s biggest trend predictions for the months ahead, and a beloved Y2K bag now equally beloved by Gen Z and Gen Alpha—including both West and Carter!—made the list.

It probably comes as no surprise that Balenciaga’s iconic Le City tote bag landed on the Watchlist; according to eBay, year-over-year global searches for the bag, which came out in 2001, grew more than 50 percent, between March 2025 and March 2026. Both Carter and West have worn versions of the bag in recent months, including Carter’s denim version at the Super Bowl and West carrying one that just so happened to match her bright teal blue hair. Do you think they raided their famous mom’s closets for vintage 2000s bags? The Le City was a celebrity essential back in the day, so we’re pretty sure both Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian owned a Le City or two at some point in the past! (Actually, we know Kardashian did!)

The Le City bag appears under eBay’s trend of “Slightly Unsettled,” which is described as “the grey area between unfinished and complete with clothing that appears shifted, interrupted, or imperfect” and “design that shifts and skews, styled to look undone.” (Levi’s bootcut jeans, asymmetrical silhouettes, and Isabel Marant wedges—another Carter fave!—also made this section of the Watchlist.) The bag, with its plethora of zippers and leather details, does have an undone, edgy-cool look and gets better with time and usage. There are plenty of Le City bags on eBay and sites like the RealReal in tons of colors, though prices have gone up in recent years. We think this denim-blue bag is ultra trendy, and you really can’t go wrong with classic black. So if you’re in the market for a new bag, maybe look at an old bag instead!
