Cantwell Confirms He’s On “Lanterns” Season 2

HBO

Christopher Cantwell has confirmed that he’s working on the second season of HBO’s “Lanterns”.

DC Studios and HBO have yet to officially renew their upcoming series for a new run, but word broke earlier this week that acclaimed “Halt and Catch Fire” co-creator Cantwell has joined the “Green Lantern” comic-inspired production.

Cantwell, who is also a prolific comic book writer and showrunner of the recent “The Terror: The Devil in Silver,” would serve as a new writer and executive producer – taking over from executive producers Damon Lindelof and Tom King who are stepping back.

Chris Mundy will remain as showrunner, and the hiring comes as a writer’s room for the series is reconvening despite the lack of official renewal – the network wants to get scripts ready so they can start production should it get the go-ahead.

Cantwell confirmed the update while sharing an image of a green ring, writing on BlueSky: “Yes, I’m joining LANTERNS Season 2.” A day later, he posted a photo of a John Stewart action figure and added: “Listen, since it got leaked yesterday months and months before the announcement, I’m just gonna start periodically posting stuff like this. No clues. Just excitement.”

Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Laura Linney, Jason Ritter, Ulrich Thomsen, Nathan Fillion, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jasmine Cephas Jones star in the series which launches August 16th.
