‘Jason Statham Stole My Bike’: Black Bear Dates David Leitch’s Upcoming Action-Comedy For August 6, 2027

David Leitch already lined up his next feature after “How To Rob A Bank,” “Jason Statham Stole My Bike,” back in February, with Black Bear financing the action-comedy. But back then, it wasn’t clear who would distribute the film, or when when it would come out. THR has an update on that front.

The outlet reports that Black Bear will also distribute the film, with a theatrical release date scheduled for August 6, 2027. That’ll make “Jason Statham Stole My Bike” the second Black Bear pic in a row for Statham, after Guy Ritchie‘s upcoming “Layer Cake” sequel “Viva La Madness“ with Ben Foster, Jason Isaacs, and Camila Mendes. Shooting just wrapped on that one, while principal photography just started on Leitch’s film, so Statham’s 2026 looks very Black Bear-centric.

But is Statham playing himself, or some version of himself, à la Jean-Claude Van Damme in 2008’s “JCVD” in this pic? It doesn’t sound that way. An official plot synopsis still isn’t available, but details indicate that the action star’s role will be similar to the CIA agent that Statham played opposite Melissa McCarthy in “Spy.” Another indicator of what Statham fans should expect out of this one? “BoJack Horseman” writer Alison Flierl pens the script for it, so expect absurdist black humor, but maybe not of the meta variety of “JCVD.”

What else do we know about “Jason Statham Stole My Bike”? Along with penning the script, Flierl has a story credit with Scott Chernoff. Producers on the film include Leitch and Kelly McCormick via their 87North banner, Statham via Punch Palace Productions, John Friedberg for Black Bear, and Meredith Berg and Ethan Erwin via Beryllium Entertainment. Executive producers on the project include Fifth Season and Tango.

Other upcoming roles for Statham include Lionsgate‘s “Mutiny,” in theaters this August, and the Amazon MGM sequel “The Beekeeper 2,” which arrives in early 2027. “Viva La Madness” is on the way, but no theatrical release date for that one yet.

Leitch’s “How To Rob A Bank” hits theaters on September 4. The action director is coming off of 2024’s “The Fall Guy,” which did just okay at the box office, and 2022’s “Bullet Train.” Other films by Leitch include the aforementioned “Hobbs & Show,” “Deadpool 2,” and “Atomic Blonde.”

Stay tuned for more details on “Jason Statham Stole My Bike” as they arrive.
