Dan Aykroyd is already watching Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day for the third time

While Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day is facing something of a box office struggle—currently sitting at a lukewarm $200 million worldwide—the sci-fi thriller has officially won over Hollywood’s ultimate paranormal expert.

Dan Aykroyd, the Ghostbusters icon and Hollywood’s most famously dedicated UFO enthusiast, took to social media to praise Spielberg’s “impeccable” research as he geared up to watch the film for a whopping third time.

Dan Aykroyd Loves Disclosure Day

With a casual shoutout to his own spirits brand, Aykroyd posted: “Cracking some Heads to share with friends as we see Spielberg’s masterwork ‘Disclosure Day’ for the third time. His research into UFO folklore is impeccable. He depicts the night Nixon took Jackie Gleason to see the E. B. E. bodies. Hope there’s a sequel. The Old Tall Gray’s peeps should blow into town and take him home.

Aykroyd’s glowing endorsement shouldn’t come as a surprise. He has been deeply invested in ufology and the paranormal for nearly his entire life. Beyond co-creating Ghostbusters, he’s a lifetime member of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) and famously hosted the late-90s sci-fi drama series Psi Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal. It’s safe to say a fourth screening of Disclosure Day is likely in his future.

Did President Richard Nixon Show Jackie Gleason Some Aliens?

As the legendary tale goes, President Richard Nixon and comedy icon Jackie Gleason (The Honeymooners) were real-life golfing buddies in Florida. Late one night in 1973, Nixon allegedly ditched his Secret Service detail and personally drove a UFO-obsessed Gleason down to Homestead Air Force Base.

Once there, they were escorted into a heavily guarded, remote building where Nixon showed the comedian “six or eight” glass-topped containers. Gleason initially thought the small, mangled shapes inside were children, before realizing he was looking at the frozen remains of Extraterrestrial Biological Entities (E.B.E.s). Gleason reportedly returned home that night severely shaken by what he had just witnessed.

The top-secret joyride eventually leaked to the public in 1983 when Gleason’s ex-wife, Beverly McKittrick, detailed the explosive story in an interview with the National Enquirer, cementing it in UFO circles forever.

Spielberg nods directly to this tabloid lore in a brief moment in Disclosure Day. In the film, Josh O’Connor’s character shows his girlfriend classified, grainy security footage of Richard Nixon walking around a military base alongside a mysterious companion. When she asks who the other man is, O’Connor casually replies, “Oh, just some old TV comedian.” A fun easter egg for UFO enthusiasts.
