The Witcher is entering an exciting new era, with the official The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt DLC, Songs of the Past, arriving later this year and the launch of The Witcher 4 slated for 2027. With both projects deep in development, CD Projekt Red is gearing up to pass the narrative torch from Geralt to Ciri and set up the future of the franchise for The Witcher 5 and 6 placing Ciri in the spotlight.

While we don’t know exactly what’s in store for Geralt and Ciri in terms of story development, there’s no doubt Witcher fans are in for a treat when it comes to both Songs of the Past and The Witcher 4. And if these upcoming projects weren’t enough to get players excited, The Witcher: Legacy is expected to release in summer 2027 and will give us a chance to hunt down the enemies who nearly destroyed the School of the Wolf (via Gamefound).

The Witcher: Legacy is an upcoming new release that was first announced back in 2025 and is currently in development. It’s an incredible new adventure that puts players in the role of a Witcher seeking down those who tried to destroy the School of the Wolf. The officially licensed story-driven board game from Go On Board and CD Projekt Red is designed for one to four players in both solo and cooperative play.

Set before Geralt’s era, the campaign explores the aftermath of the devastating attack on Kaer Morhen and the downfall of the School of the Wolf, with players taking on the roles of surviving Witchers investigating the conspiracy behind the massacre. Built around a branching narrative, the game features interconnected scenarios where decisions permanently shape future sessions through legacy-style mechanics.

Players travel across Kaedwen and the Northern Kingdoms, hunting monsters, upgrading combat decks, brewing potions, and developing their characters as the story unfolds. Following the massive success of The Witcher: Old World, Legacy is one of CD Projekt Red’s biggest tabletop collaborations to date and is currently slated for release in 2027.

If you’re unaware, Legacy board games are campaign-based experiences that evolve as you play over time. Unlike traditional board games, players make lasting changes by “unlocking” new content, adding stickers, writing on different components, opening sealed boxes, and altering rules over multiple sessions. Each decision carries forward to the next session, creating a unique and persistent story that unfolds across a larger campaign.
