After she dropped her first single “Mean It” in 2019, Gracie Abrams went on somewhat of a hair transformation journey before landing on her current bixie cut, which she wears for her new album Daughter from Hell. Shorter hairstyles may not immediately come to mind when thinking of a pop star, given the popularity of hairography, but that might just be why it has become one of her unique trademarks over the years.

The bixie style is not without its fair share of upkeep, but it seems the singer is dedicated to it. She recently told Vogue, “I’m not very tolerant of growout, so if the back of my neck starts to know for even a moment that there is hair, I’m like, ‘chop it.’”

While Abrams is now known for her short bixie haircut, she’s tried and tested a couple of different styles throughout her career. Some people grow their hair longer over the years, but Abrams has notably gone shorter instead. From her first big chop in summer of 2023 while opening for Taylor Swift on the Eras tour, Abrams has tested the waters with different iterations of the bob, so her shorter cut wasn’t completely out of the blue. “I have found as I have continued to cut my hair off, I feel more like myself,” Abrams recently said in conversation with Olivia Rodrigo on Spotify’s “Countdown To.”
