The Rings of Power season 3 will finally give us Gandalf the Grey

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power introduced The Stranger, a mysterious man who fell from the sky in a flaming meteor, and after much speculation, he was finally confirmed to be Gandalf the Grey. Now that the truth has been revealed, it’s time for the Prime Video series to go full-Gandalf in the upcoming third season and give us the wizard we all know and love.

It’s Gandalf Time!

While speaking with Empire, actor Daniel Weyman said he was thrilled to learn that the third season would fully embrace Gandalf, cloak and hat included.

Just before we started Season 3, J.D. [Payne] and Patrick [McKay] told me: ‘We want to see that Gandalf has arrived. We want to see him as the wizard we all love from Tolkien’s writings’,” the actor said. “I found this new side to him, the side that we all hopefully recognise: the mischief, the twinkle in his eye.

Empire also dropped a first-look image showing the actor in full costume, and Weyman found it “unbelievably spine-tingling” to finally get to wear the hat. Check out the full image below.

The third season of The Rings of Power will debut on Prime Video on November 11.

The Hunt for Gollum

In addition to The Ring of Power, a new Lord of the Rings movie is also on the way. Production recently kicked off on The Hunt for Gollum, which is being directed by Andy Serkis, who also reprises his role as Gollum/Smeagol. The rest of the cast includes Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey, Lee Pace as Thranduil, and Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins.

Jamie Dornan will be stepping into the role of Strider, aka Aragorn, chief of the Northern Dúnedain Rangers, and Leo Woodall will play Halvard, another one of the Dúnedain. Kate Winslet will play Marigol, the matriarch of a settlement of Hobbit-like folk. Anya Taylor-Joy has also joined the cast as Seren, a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm.

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is currently slated for a December 17, 2027 release. Another new movie, which sports the working title Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past, is also in the works, with Steven Colbert writing the script.
