Dungeons & Dragons has no shortage of fantastical and folkloric creatures. Some are more popular than others, such as D&D’ demogorgons and mind flayers (made popular with wider audiences due to Stranger Things, no doubt), and some are far cuter than they are scary, such as hollyphants and tressyms. Today, though, a brand-new critter joins the lore of Dungeons & Dragons, as well as players’ campaigns.

Following in the similarly sized footprints of adorable animals like Punchy the baby Japanese macaque and Moo Deng the pygmy hippopotamus, Jimothy the raccoon has taken the world by storm. It hasn’t taken long for Jimothy to become an icon that people gush over and claim their love for, and, in an equally short period, Jimothy going viral as an internet sensation has also led to him being added to D&D.

Heartwarmingly, as per X, Wizards of the Coast has officially gifted fans a full stat block for the “beloved cryptid” that is available on D&D Beyond, the digital toolset for Dungeons & Dragons 5e. Here, we see that Jimothy is adorably classified as a “Tiny Beast” with a series of assorted stats and a wonderfully amusing list of traits.

Firstly, Jimothy is “Agile,” meaning he “doesn’t provoke an Opportunity Attack when he moves out of an enemy’s reach.” Secondly, Jimothy amusingly has a “Compact Frame,” allowing him to “move through a space as narrow as 4 inches without expending extra movement to do so.”

Likewise, Jimothy’s actions include “Nibble,” “Hurl Garbage,” and “Captivate.” The target of Hurl Garbage is hilariously “stinky” until the start of Jimothy’s next turn, and Captivate is a wonderful action for Jimothy to have in Dungeons & Dragons’ gameplay, as he’s certainly captivated everyone who’s watched videos or had the pleasure of witnessing him in person.

It’s a testament to how beloved Jimothy is that he’s been adapted into Dungeons & Dragons so quickly. Fans love the critter’s resolve and resilience, showcasing how naturally people flock to unique animals who have defining characteristics. It’s unknown how long Jimothy will remain an icon, but a massive franchise like Dungeons & Dragons officially establishing him as a cryptid ensures that his legacy will not be over anytime soon.

‘Jimothy’ is also the perfect name for Seattle residents to have given this peculiar raccoon, seeing how the name closely resembles the same conventions with which Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ Jarnathan is named. Jimothy deserves all the love he’s received, and it will be fascinating to see what games other than Dungeons & Dragons may choose to adapt him into their worlds.
