What a fabulous year Anne Hathaway is having. She has five projects of different shapes and sizes on her slate in 2026, with three having already been released. She began the year with David Lowery‘s new psychological drama Mother Mary, and then reprised her role as Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada 2, which grossed nearly $700 million worldwide. She can currently be seen in Christopher Nolan‘s latest epic, The Odyssey, which will likely surpass The Devil Wears Prada 2 in box-office returns, and has earned a tremendous 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Up next, Hathaway will star alongside Ewan McGregor in the mysterious sci-fi movie The End of Oak Street, before wrapping up 2026 with the red-hot literary adaptation Verity.
Perhaps this streak of movies, aimed at different audience demographics, might shed light on some of Hathaway’s more overlooked work. In the last decade, she has starred in several movies that slipped through the cracks. Many of them received enthusiastic reviews. At the top of this list are the dramas Armageddon Time and She Came to Me. Hathaway also starred in a handful of edgier titles, such as Mother’s Instinct, Eileen, and Serenity. However, one of her most acclaimed roles came in a movie that will turn 10 next year. The movie in question is currently streaming in North America on Netflix, but it’s set to be removed from the platform soon.
Anne Hathaway Took on Ted Lasso Himself in This Critically Acclaimed Sci-Fi Movie
We’re talking about the character-driven sci-fi movie Colossal, in which Hathaway played an alcoholic who discovers that her demons manifest in the form of a city-destroying kaiju. Colossal was directed by Nacho Vigalondo, best known for the Spanish-language mind-bender Timecrimes, as his second Hollywood project. It also featured Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis in a supporting role and received positive reviews. The movie now holds a “Certified Fresh” 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes, where the consensus reads, “Colossal‘s singular strangeness can be disorienting, but viewers who hang on may find that its genre-defying execution — and Anne Hathaway’s performance — is well worth the ride.” Despite the positive reviews, the movie grossed under $5 million at the box office.
