Jenna Ortega and Natalie Portman’s upcoming movie, The Gallerist, has been picked up for distribution and secured a release date. Announced in 2024, the dark comedy comes from Cathy Yan, who previously directed the DC action/comedy Birds of Prey.

The Gallerist premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. According to Deadline, Roadside Attractions and Vertical have picked up the U.S. distribution rights to the movie. Following the deal, it now has a theatrical release date for December 4, 2026.

Set against the backdrop of Art Basel Miami, the film follows Portman as Polina Polinski, a gallery owner at her wits’ end facing financial hardship and separation from her partner. Jenna Ortega plays Kiki, Polina’s assistant.

“What begins as an impromptu act of survival—when she conspires to pass off an accidental corpse as the centerpiece of her debut show—spirals into a sly game of deception, spectacle, and ticking-clock chaos as influencers and police converge. Will she end up famous, a felon, or both?” reads the film’s synopsis.

Besides Ortega and Portman, The Gallerist stars Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Sterling K. Brown, Zach Galifianakis, Daniel Brühl, and Charli XCX. It will also reunite Ortega with Catherine Zeta Jones, who played her onscreen mother in Wednesday.

The Gallerist is directed by Yan from a screenplay written by James Pedersen. It is produced by Portman, Ash Sarohia, Sophie Mas, Jonathan King, Tom McCarthy, Rae Baron, and Zola Elgart Glassman. MRC is the production company.

Portman will be next seen in Good Sex, and Ortega will lead Klara and the Sun later in 2026.
