“We’re dealing with some mighty devious folks over here.” “Then you need to fight for what’s ours.” Sure. Amazon MGM Studios has revealed the official trailer for Sarah’s Oil, a movie about a young millionaire from America’s history. It’s now set to open in theaters in November this fall. “What she discovers is about to change everything. Witness the powerful true story of Sarah Rector.” Alas the film has a major religious aspect, described as “more than a good story: it’s a family, a faith, a legacy.” It’s also produced by and stars Zachary Levi, unfortunately, whom no one seems to like much anymore. Sarah’s Oil tells the remarkable true story of 11-year-old Sarah Rector, an African American girl born in Oklahoma Indian Territory in the early 1900s, who believes there is oil beneath the barren land she’s allotted and whose faith is proven right. Sarah turns to her family, friends, and some Texas wildcatters to maintain control of her oil-rich land, eventually becoming one of the nation’s first female African American millionaires. This stars Naya Desir-Johnson (from A Thousand and One) as Sarah, with Levi, Sonequa Martin-Green, Garret Dillahunt, Mel Rodriguez, Kenric Green, Bridget Regan, Adyan Copes, & Selase Botchway. ⛽ Have a look.

Inspired by Tonya Bolden’s book, Sarah’s Oil tells the true story of Sarah Rector (Naya Desir-Johnson), an African American born in Oklahoma Indian Territory in the early 1900s, who believes there is oil beneath the barren land she’s allotted and whose faith is proven right. As greedy oil sharks close in, Sarah turns to her family, friends and some Texas wildcatters to maintain control of her oil-rich land, soon becoming one of the nation’s first female African American millionaires — at only 11 years old. Sarah’s Oil is directed by Iranian-American writer / producer / filmmaker Cyrus Nowrasteh, director of the films Veiled Threat, The Island, The Stoning of Soraya M, The Young Messiah, and Infidel previously. The screenplay is written by Betsy Giffen Nowrasteh & Cyrus Nowrasteh. Adapted from the book titled “Searching for Sarah Rector: The Richest Black Girl in America” written by Tonya Bolden.
