This 89% RT Crime Show Is So Good, George Clooney Compared It To The Godfather

George Clooney is a big fan of Netflix’s crime drama Narcos, and he had some very high praise for it. Clooney is one of the most renowned movie stars in the world, with both crowd-pleasing blockbusters like the Ocean’s trilogy and acclaimed indies like Good Night, and Good Luck under his belt, so his opinion carries a lot of weight.

Clooney has starred in Syriana, Money Monster, The American, Burn After Reading, and the untouchable masterpiece that is Michael Clayton, so he knows a thing or two about what makes a great crime thriller. And according to Far Out Magazine, his favorite TV show of all time falls into that category. Apparently, Clooney is a diehard fan of Narcos.

George Clooney Had High Praise For Netflix’s Narcos

“My Favorite Series I’ve Ever Seen”

Clooney once admitted that he watches more TV than movies, despite making movies for a living, because there’s “infinitely more good television” than any other medium. In the Golden Age of Television, there were so many great shows to catch up on, whereas movies and other forms of entertainment have been annoyingly hit-and-miss. Clooney described Narcos as “my favorite series I’ve ever seen.

There’s infinitely more good television than there is anything else. My favourite series I’ve ever seen is Narcos — every episode was like The Godfather.

Narcos is Netflix’s gritty, violent dramatization of the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar, told through the eyes of the DEA agents trying to bring down his empire. Clooney gave Narcos the highest possible praise, saying, “Every episode was like The Godfather.” Clooney also had some very flattering things to say about The Crown, but he didn’t compare it to The Godfather.

Why Everyone Should Watch Netflix’s Crime Show With 89% On RT

It’s One Of The Greatest True Crime Stories Of All Time, Told Spectacularly

Pedro Pascal in Narcos Season 3 Netflix

Narcos is one of Netflix’s best original shows, and anyone with an interest in true-crime stories should check it out. Escobar is one of the most curious and complicated criminal figures who ever lived — he was a ruthless drug lord, but he was also a revered folk hero in his local community — and Narcos captures his complexity.

Wagner Moura gives a spectacular, three-dimensional performance as Escobar, and Boyd Holbrook and Pedro Pascal give early star-making turns as the DEA agents on his tail. The series is uncompromisingly grim and gruesome, but it needed to be in order to do this story justice. It fictionalizes some elements, but it gets the broad strokes of the Medellín saga right.

With three seasons of 10 episodes each, Narcos is a pretty easy binge. The series doesn’t waste any time; the first two seasons chronicle Escobar’s rise and fall, then the third season explores the aftermath of his fall. Just as Clooney suggests, Narcos is gripping television whose poignant performances and dark, gritty, character-focused storytelling are reminiscent of The Godfather.
