"It Sort of Mirrors Ana's Character": Norman Reedus Reveals Juicy Details About His 'Ballerina' Role

Finally, the John Wick spin-off Ballerina has hit our screens, and fan reaction has been impressive. With the movie already hitting a 94% audience score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes and officially becoming the highest-rated movie in the franchise, perhaps the future of John Wick is now safely in the hands of Ana de Armas. However, although de Armas is a force of nature throughout the film, it takes an entire ensemble to craft such excellent work, with Ballerina boasting a plethora of top talent.

Featuring an appearance from the face of the franchise, Keanu Reeves, Ballerina also features Ian McShane and the late Lance Reddick as Winston and Charon, respectively; Anjelica Huston, who returns as The Director, last seen in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum; and Norman Reedus, best known for his role in The Walking Dead, as a new addition to the cast. The latter of these is one of the more intriguing additions to the John Wick universe, with the actor himself shedding light on his character in an interview with GamesRadar.

“He would have grown up with a lot of guilt, a lot of murder, a lot of secrecy,” Reedus revealed about his character Daniel, adding, “I think he’s just come to a point where his little girl, who’s about to be introduced to this world, he’s willing to fight everybody in the world.” Speaking on the similarities between his character and de Armas’, Reedus said:

“He doesn’t want this for his daughter, so he’s going to do everything he can to make sure that he can get her out of there. It sort of mirrors Ana’s character, in a way, because she’s fighting everyone, which is the same as Keanu in the John Wicks. It’s that important to her to get the revenge, and it’s that important to Daniel to save his little girl. So I think that’s where those two characters come together.”

‘Ballerina’ Has a Tough Box-Office Task

Never too shy for a high-stakes battle, Ballerina‘s box office future hinges on its ability to compete with several other top titles as summer 2025 kicks off with a series of high-profile blockbusters. Chief among them is Disney’s live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch, which, as of writing, has accumulated $637 million globally in just two weeks. Then there is Tom Cruise‘s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which is consistently finishing behind the Disney live-action flick with a total global haul so far of $391 million. However, Ballerina has already earned a small victory against the latter, finishing Thursday’s box office ranking ahead, thanks to $3.75 million in previews.

Ballerina is available in theaters. Stay tuned to Collider for updates on the latest movies.
