‘Survivor 50’ Needs a Wine Alliance Between These Two Players

Fans love watching Survivor castaways interact for the first time on the beach, with the getting-to-know-you awkwardness and excitement. With so many pre-established connections coming into Survivor 50, there is one new connection that fans are ready to lap up, and it’s all because of their consumption of wine. Survivor is notorious for tempting its castaways with rewards they have been craving. And for two, wine was the word.

Both Mike White of Survivor: David vs Goliath and Emily Flippen of Survivor 45 notoriously earned wine as a reward, and they both created stand-out Survivor moments over their passion for wine. Now, fans are hoping the two players will have a moment to chat over their beverage of choice and make a brand-new meme in the process. Although wine may bring them together, an alliance might actually benefit their individual games.

The cast of Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans is a perplexing mix of old-school and New Era castaways; physically strong players and strategic masterminds. Depending on the type of game style you prefer will likely determine who you’ll be backing in your fantasy drafts, but if you’re looking for those somewhat awkward individuals who were fish out of water, Mike White and Emily Flippen are right up your alley.

The White Lotus creator played at the tail end of the 30s, just before Survivor flipped into a game meant for cerebral individuals. But playing on the Goliath tribe, he felt like an outcast. While many of his tribemates were physically strong, earning the Goliath moniker, he earned it due to his extensive and successful Hollywood resume. School of Rock, anyone? Fearing he would be a target, his brilliant ability to bend his social game around the players surrounding him boosted his ability to maneuver through the tribe swap and the merge. We know that he’s an exceptional storyteller, and he worked that magic on the island. Now, he’s back, with an even larger target on his back, but his persona is going to remain the same. He’s a major threat if you allow him to get deep enough into the game.

Like Mike, Emily was a fish out of water on her disastrous tribe. Lulu has been deemed one of the worst tribes in the history of the game. Had Hannah Rose not quit in the first Tribal Council, all signs would have pointed towards Emily being the first boot. She took that second chance to heart and realized her frosty exterior was not a winning strategy. She completely turned her game around and became the poster child of how adapting to a fast-paced game can lead to optimal success. She was still her cerebral self, but once she allowed herself to have fun playing the game we all dream of playing, she found her footing. Unfortunately, she couldn’t penetrate the strong alliances that had already been formed, and her loyalty cost her her spot.

Wine Aligns These Castaways

Both castaways lasted longer than they initially assumed they would, showing just how good they are. They are both brilliant strategic gamers, alike in many ways, who would make a strong yet unexpected alliance. And they both truly came to life when they earned some wine! You truly don’t know your limit of your desires until you’re stripped of them. Mike White wanted wine, so when he was part of the reward that granted him wine, that was his focus. The other castaways, including fellow Survivor 50 castaway Angelina Keeley, went on a mission to find the Hidden Immunity Idol, and, not to be outdone, Mike joined them, wine glass in hand. It became a meme because it was a mood. Years later, it was Emily’s turn. She won a charcuterie board and wine during the Survivor auction. Let’s just say that’s my dream reward. Well, not to outshine Mike, Emily did a confessional, wine in hand, that again, became a forever mood.

It’s no coincidence that they are on this season together, nor is the fact that the official Survivor Instagram shared the dual image of them and their infamous wine scenes. If the producers are smart, they will ensure that these two share a bottle of vino together. But it would be to their benefit to utilize one another in the game. They do not have any previous connections aside from the one we’ve created for them, therefore a budding alliance can be achieved. Like Survivor 48 winner Kyle Fraser and Kamilla Karthigesu, they were an unlikely yet obvious pair. And it worked out in their favor. They can no longer replicate that their second time out, so let Mike and Emily take it from here.

As we predict how the season may play out, keep these two on your radar. In their respective seasons, they had unique social games that had to adapt based on the individuals surrounding them, but they were never able to seal the deal. Can they lean on one another, share some wine, and make it to the end, or is Emily’s meeting with Mike White just a surefire casting on the next season of The White Lotus? Cue the theme song!
