Led by Pat McGrath herself, tonight’s makeup pays homage to past eras, with key features like the smokey eye, warm blushed cheeks, glowy skin and more. But perhaps the most buzz-worthy look of the night is the ultra glossy pink lips.

McGrath is known for her simple yet effective techniques, especially using products in new and imaginative ways. So, her precise placement of lip gloss shouldn’t come as a surprise, but it is a super clever hack perfect for catching the light and adding even more shine to your look.

Backstage, Teen Vogue’s Video Producer and Editor Yanise Cabrera talked to Pat McGrath who broke down the makeup for us. McGrath cited Victoria’s Secret Creative Director Adam Selman as much of the inspiration behind the look. “Adam just wanted the girls to look gorgeous and glowing and beautiful,” she tells Teen Vogue.

To get that glow, McGrath and her team opted for pink and nude glosses. Skipping no detail, she also shared that she will sometimes use a touch of a sparkly shade on just the center of the lips as well, adding some glimmer to the focal point of the look. And on the runway, the glitter can catch and reflect the overhead lights, so the lip combo looks even more glossy.
