The action movie that made Gerard Butler a star is having a moment on streaming, nearly 20 years after it first hit theaters. Butler stars alongside Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) and Michael Fassbender (Prometheus) in 300, the period action epic telling the story of the 300 brave Spartans led by King Leonidas (Butler) who stood against Xerxes and his gargantuan Persian army. 300 is not currently on streaming anywhere in America, but globally, the film has returned to the VOD top 10 charts in several countries, including Latvia, Lebanon, Panama, Tunisia, and even Yemen.

Although 300 isn’t streaming anywhere in America right now, don’t fret. It certainly won’t be long before it returns to streaming somewhere. 300 was moderately well-liked by critics upon its release, but the film hit home with audiences, who also pushed it to success at the box office. 300 earned scores of 61% from critics and 89% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it also grossed $456 million at the global box office against a relatively modest $65 million budget. $65 million was still a lot in the early 2000s when 300 was made, but a budget for a movie like this now would certainly be over $100 million.

300 is based on the popular graphic novel by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley, and Zack Snyder wrote the screenplay for the film and directed. Kurt Johnstad and Michael B. Gordon also wrote the script for the film. 300 is arguably the most famous project in the careers of both Zack Snyder and Gerard Butler, and they have not worked together in the near 20 years since it was released.

When Does Gerard Butler’s Next Movie Come Out?

Gerard Butler’s next movie will be released in theaters on January 9, 2026. Butler will star alongside Morena Baccarin in Greenland 2: Migration, the sequel to his 2020 disaster movie. Greenland 2 takes the spot on the release schedule from Jason Statham’s Mutiny, which was pushed back to summer 2026 as it continues work on post-production. Butler will also be seen in a sequel to the live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie, which has already been slotted with the June 11, 2027, spot on the release schedule. Den of Thieves 3 will also likely be released sometime in 2027.
