Sydney Sweeney has become one of the biggest stars in the world in the last few years, and after headlining several projects this year, her next big movie just got an exciting new look. As part of our Collider’s Exclusive Preview event this week here at Collider, we’re thrilled to debut a new image of Sweeney and her co-star Amanda Seyfried in their upcoming thriller, The Housemaid. 1923 breakout star Brandon Skelnar will also feature in The Housemaid, alongside Michele Morrone and Elizabeth Perkins. The film arrives exclusively in theaters everywhere on December 19 courtesy of Lionsgate.
The official synopsis for The Housemaid reads as follows: Trying to escape her past, Millie (Sweeney) accepts a job as a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Sklenar). But what begins as a dream job quickly unravels into something far more dangerous — a sexy, seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power. Behind the Winchesters’ closed doors lies a world of shocking twists that will leave you guessing until the very end. Based on the acclaimed, best-selling novel by author Freida McFadden, The Housemaid promises to be one of the most wildly entertaining thrillers of the year.
The Housemaid author Frieda McFadden has already seen an early screening of the movie, and she had nothing but glowing things to say about the adaptation. This is a delightful sign for fans of the book, especially in an era when the source material can be treated so carelessly. Rebecca Sonnenshine wrote the script for The Housemaid, and Paul Feig directed the film with Todd Lieberman and Laura Fischer producing. Feig is best known for directing Jason Statham’s Spy, along with A Simple Favor and its sequel, Another Simple Favor.
‘The Housemaid’s Sydney Sweeney Is Booked and Busy
The Housemaid star Sweeney has been busy this year starring in projects like Echo Valley, Eden, and Americana. Her next project comes in the form of Christy, the boxing biopic that debuted at TIFF earlier this year with a score of 69% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The Housemaid will be her final movie of the year, but she’s got plenty of projects in the pipeline to look forward to. She’ll be seen reprising her signature role as Cassie in the long-awaited third season of Euphoria, which is now in production ahead of its planned 2026 release date. She’ll also headline the Scandalous Kim Novak biopic from Colman Domingo.
