This is the third iteration of what’s lovingly referred to in watch circles as the “Windtona.” Wind and True North’s collaborative chronographs retail for wallet-friendly prices, but they don’t stay there. Despite selling for less than $400 both the white- and black-dial versions of the Windtona now sell for multiples of that—over $1,000 in some cases!—on eBay.
The previous watches borrowed their color palette from the card game Uno, and somehow this watch is even more vivacious. Call it Wind’s Girl Dad watch: The pastel pink dial and yellow, purple, and blue subdials were chosen by the dealer’s young daughters. Pastels have been big this year, ever since several releases at Watches and Wonders used the Easter-ready shades. When I pointed the trend out to Wind, he assured me it was merely a coincidence and that the watch had been in production long before the Geneva tradeshow. “I think a lot of that’s often happenstance and luck rather than some Watch Illuminati plan,” he joked. (I don’t buy it!)
Vaer x Worn & Wound x Topo Design ($349)
This is just a damn handsome watch. Publications like Hodinkee and Revolution have had big success with their collaboration programs, because no one is more obsessed with the details than the next-level watch lunatics behind these platforms. So it’s no surprise that Worn & Wound’s field watch, made in collaboration with watchmaker Vaer and outdoors brand Topo Designs, is an anything-but-dull take on the sometimes-dull field watch. Topo is known for its colorful hiking gear, and it brought that same energy to the Solar Hiker, which comes in either a forest green or crisp black. The former is the one worth camping out for, in my opinion.
