Christoph Waltz Trades ‘Frankenstein’ for ‘Dracula’ in First Trailer for Luc Besson’s New Supernatural Thriller

After starring in Frankenstein earlier this year for Guillermo del Toro, Christoph Waltz is due to headline another supernatural thriller that just got an exciting new look. Waltz will star alongside Caleb Landry Jones and Zoë Bleu in Dracula, formerly titled Dracula: A Love Tale. SND films has released a new trailer for Dracula, which is due in theaters earlier next year on February 6. It was written and directed by Luc Besson, and it’s inspired by the famous Dracula novel by Bram Stoker, which has been adapted into film and television dozens of times over the years. This version will be more romantic than others, if the former title is any indication.

The new Dracula movie is set in the 15th century, and it follows a prince who denounces his god after the loss of his wife, which leads him to become Dracula due to a vicious curse. Condemned to wander for years on end, he continuously proves to be no match for either fate or death as he’s guided by one wish — to be reunited with his one true love. The film currently sits at 82% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. This comes from only 17 reviews, so it is subject to change. It does not have a score on the audience-driven Popcornmeter.

Christoph Waltz is a two-time Oscar-winner for his work on Inglourious Basterds and later, Django Unchained. Both films were directed by Quentin Tarantino, who has come under fire for criticizing stars such as Paul Dano and Matthew Lillard. Waltz is also famous for his role as the James Bond villain Ernst Blofeld in the Daniel Craig-led 007 movies, and he even recently starred in the beloved Hulu series, Only Murders in the Building.

2024 Delivered Another Famous Vampiric Thriller

Almost exactly one year ago, Robert Eggers released his latest film, Nosferatu, which earned widespread acclaim. The film earned scores of 85% from critics and 73% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it even grossed over $180 million at the box office against a $50 million budget. It was nominated for four Oscars at the 2025 Academy Awards, but it ultimately didn’t take home any trophies. Lily-Rose Depp stars alongside Nicholas Hoult and Bill Skarsgård in the film. Eggers is currently working on his next movie, Werewolf, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Ineson. The film is coming to theaters on Christmas next year.
